We had to write a poem inspired by The Crucible about the Salem Witchcraft trials.
Our children run through the streets
Dirty faces and empty bellies
Who else can we blame for this chaos
But the damned and the devil himself?

The lives of the people
Trapped in a young girl’s fist
All opposition stamped down
All accused of witchcraft

The evil lies not in the accused
But in the hearts of the accusers
In the pawn of “justice”
Sitting in his mighty chair

“Cling not to faith
When faith draws blood”
Be true to yourself
Give no lie to dogs

Love thy neighbor
As you love thyself?
All old pretenses ripped away
Yes… God’s icy wind will blow
