Philosophy is very sophisticated subject and if we want to understand it, we must philosophize profoundly because its notions are deep. This reflection wrote by Gabriel Marcel was written in order to refine the questions about philosophy. One of it is “What can one expect of Philosophy?” This question has many factors to consider in order being answer concretely.
He implied that a person could expect of philosophy if one has the fervor towards philosophy, one who understand things profoundly, and one who assert his own philosophical experience to have a dialogue with other intricate philosophical experiences. In other words a philospher can expect of philosophy as a tool in his daily life. Then he clarified his answer because the readers might misunderstand it. He said that not only the philosopher could rely on philosophy but also the non-philosopher.

He was implying that philosopher and non-philosopher can benefit and experience philosophy in different ways because its our being to philosophize. Most of us just don’t notice it but it is there present within us. Philosophy is like air it is around us and without it we will not be able to survive. He inferred both the philosopher and non-philosopher experience philosophy base on their needs.

I agree with him because not all of us have the same needs because we differ with each other. To make it simple in my own understanding, Philosophy is like water. There are persons who drink more water than usual and others are not. All of us need water and neither of us can live without it. In the other hand, non-philosopher and philosopher experience philosophy but the latter is more expose of philosophy because of the desire to grasp it profoundly.

The being of philosophy was Marcel’s basis on his reflection. Philosophy was born in order to refine obscure notions. He thought that philosophy and religion have a converging zone and that zone is our human faith. Both of them can stand on its own and have its own foundation and structure that is why they always go together. Philosophy is the introduction of religion in order to understand and accept religion concretely.

I affirm his ideas that the being of philosophy will answer what can we expect of philosophy. We expect that it help us to strengthen our faith. Now in modern times I can say that philosophy is really important and I myself expect of it as my guide. In this modern age there are lot of things that can change us and we need philosophy in order to discern whether it is good or bad. It helps us to clarify things that has profound notion.
