How William Duke of Normandy became king in 1066 - from a normans point of view

The battle of Hastings was fought yesterday at Hastings. William, duke of Normandy, won and week, feeble Harold Godwinson, ex-king of England, failed and died.

When King Edward the confessor died 3 men claimed that they were the best to rule England. The contenders were: William, duke of Normandy, Harold, earl of Wessex and King Harald Hardraada of Norway.

William had a very very good campaign much better than Harold Godwinson’s or Harald Hardraada’s. However Harold Godwinson was chosen for the new king. Of course William and Hardraada were very angry. They both planned attacks to try and take over England. Obviously Williams plan was much much better than Hardraada’s.

Hardraada attacked first at Stanford Bridge where he was defeated by King Harold. Meanwhile William sailed across the English Channel and set up camp while King Harold was marching down the country with less than half an army after defeating Hardraada.

King Harold’s army stood on a hill facing William’s army in front of a wood. William’s army attacked many times but Harold’s army stood tall.
Then William used his best tactic – pretending to retreat. Harold’s
army followed, chasing them into the woods. Then William’s army turned round and cut off many of Harold’s men’s heads off and killed the rest. Harold was shoot in the eye and died and it was rumoured William was dead too! But he removed his helmet and showed his army he was alive and that the land was his.

It is believed that William will march to London and claim the throne on Christmas day and England will have a new king.

Thanks to Williams braveness, skills, intelligence and overall just being the best he won the battle of Hastings and showed that stupid oath, Harold, who’s boss.
