Chapter 3
Fall into Discovery
PAAA!!!  The piercing sound reverberated in the tall study room.  Wilner felt tremendous heat and pressure in his head.  The pain throbbed through his head, bouncing around his skull.  Wilner could not feel any of his limbs, making him believe he had broken his neck.  He still had not opened his eyes for fear he would see blood and bones.  He was surprised he was still alive; or at least he believed he was alive.  Slowly he felt a tingling sensation in his feet and then his hands.  A deep breath sound, he had never noticed before, came from in front of him.  He knew it was not him.  He slowly opened his eyes, unable to see anything because his vision was blurred from tears. He blinked a couple of times to clear his eyes.  When he finally cleared his eyes all he saw was the floor.  It was as if he was looking at the scene of his fall from above, floating over the floor.  Was this his spirit?  Was he having an out-of-body experience?  He looked up and saw a wand in front of his face.
Angy was standing in front of him, wand at hand.  She had heard Wilner screaming and ran to the study.  Demanston had stood in the doorway, frozen with fear and panic.  She pulled him out of the way and ran inside. Wilner was falling faster than normal.  Immediately she knew he had accidentally said an accelerating spell instead of a slowing or levitating one.  Pulling out her wand she yelled,
         “Momentos Parerdium!!!”
Wilner instantly stopped 4 feet from the ground, but a book continued and slammed into the floor.
Wilner realized his godmother had saved him.  She slowly tilted him to an upright position and let him down.
“What happened?”  Angy said while hugging Wilner, thankful she got there in time.
         “I found it!”
“Found what?  What did you find?”
“The book…godfather’s book.  I found it!”  Wilner said while picking up the book from the floor.
“Oh my lord…that’s it!  Where was it?!”
“It was in one of the top shelves.  I also found this map.”  Wilner pulled the map from his back pocket.  Demanston slowly walked in, shaken up from what had happened.
“I am really sorry Wilner.  I didn’t mean to cause you to fall down.”
“That’s ok.  It was kinda fun until I realized I was going to die.  Hey, you should try it.”
“No one is trying anything.”  Angy exclaimed.
“Now lets go see what’s in this book.”  Angy directed them out of the room to the dinning room table.
As they were sitting down, Wilner started to wonder why he had had a “flashback” before he grabbed the book.
“Angy, before I grabbed the book I had a flashback that felt incredibly real.  It was really strange.”
         “Hmm…sounds like a memory bubble.”
         “A what?” Wilner was puzzled.
“It’s a spell that surrounds an object or area that lets people remember certain key events in their life.  It is usually something to help them find something.”
“So lets see what’s in the book.”  Demanston blurted out anxious to see what they would find.
Wilner opened the book and flipped through the pages.  He had flipped to the end and had a puzzled look on his face.
“You said there was a folded paper in the book?”
“Yes,…Why?”  Angy was starting to get nervous.
“Let me check.  You couldn’t find water even if you went to the sea.”  Demanston snatched the book out of Wilner’s hand and began to vigorously shake the book.  Nothing fell out, making Angy even more nervous.
Had Charley, Wilner’s godfather, taken the letter out and hid it somewhere else?  She knew that the letter was important.  When they found Charley’s body he had a letter in his hand.  The letter was directed towards Angy.  It read, “Angy, my love, please don’t let them find it.  Please give it to the small one.  When the time is right he will know what to do.”
After that letter, Angy searched the whole house but could not find the book.  She gave up thinking it was not so important.  But now she could see the letter was essential.
         She had to find it.

Camelot was in a state of high alert.  No word from Karoz had come since he left.  It had been 3 days. Karoz always sent a status report every 2 days.  Many high officials were beginning to worry that Karoz and his men had died.  To add to their troubles, there was no word from Amora either.
“My Lord, I believe you should address the people.  Tell them something has gone wrong, but assure them you will send another team.”
“And , cause a state of panic again?  I’ve calmed them down enough to make the city function.  I will not let the city fall into total chaos again.”  Barmond exclaimed.
“What are we to do, then?”
“We shall wait.  If in 3 days we haven’t heard from either of them, send a crystal message to Abaddon and send a larger squad to kill the werewolves.”
Barmond got up from his throne and walked to the lavish balcony.  He could see the entire city and the Angelic Mountain range that surrounded the city.  The sun was going down in the west, making the sky glow with beautiful hues of red, orange, and purple.  Beyond the ridge laid the Plains of Balderes.  The grass flowed like a green sea, as the wind gently blew across the blades of grass.  Even though Barmond hated his stewardship, the only thing that kept him from stepping down was this beautiful view and his rule of such an enchanted land.  A flock of plush pigeons, a round fluffy bird with small stubby wings and big round eyes, flew across the sky in a diamond shape. This reminded Barmond of his childhood, when he used to go plush pigeon hunting with his father.  His father was the most liked ruler of his age.  People would do anything for him.  His father was very busy and had no time for him.  Only on hunting trips could Barmond talk and play with his father.
“Daddy, why do you always have things to do?  Why can’t we just stay here and play?”
“Well, my son, I’m a very important person.  I rule over everything you see.”
         “You’re King!”
“Not really.  I’m substituting for the King.  I’m a Stuart.”
“Where is the King then, Daddy?”
“No one knows.  They say he’s out there somewhere.  They say he’s the nicest person on earth and he can make people do the impossible.”
“But can’t you do that?  People do everything you say and you’re the nicest person I know.”
         Barmond’s dad began to chuckle.
“I do do all that, but I am no King.  I am trying to find the King, not be the King.  Our family vowed that none of our family members will enter heaven until the true and glorious King is found.”
“Daddy, I will find the King and we all can go to heaven.”
“I’m sure you will my son, I’m sure you will.”

“My Lord, come here quickly.  I believe your worry will end after this.”

A sharp pain shot up Niniar’s arm, awaking him from his deep sleep.  He slowly opened his eyes but his vision was blurry.  He could hear voices, but could not understand them.  He blinked several times, slowly regaining his sight.
He recognized the area he was in.  The dead mossy trees and foggy air were unmistakable to Niniar.  He was in the Dead Wood forest, at the edge of the Nolava Kingdom.  This forest was choked of almost all life.  All that lived there were giant blind tree squirrels and some deerilops, deer with horns, not antlers.  Most of the trees had been killed a thousand years ago by the acid filled rivers, a curse set upon the humans of the area for betraying the laws of Mother Earth.
A sharp pain shot through Niniar’s stomach, giving him a sign that he needed something to eat.  Niniar had a condition that when hunger struck he would begin to lose control of his actions, causing him to do things he normally would not do.

“Thank God you’re alive, Amora.”  the steward said enthusiastically into the crystal ball in which he could see her and her surroundings.  “So what have you figured out, my dear?”
“I have bad news, sire.  Abaddon is responsible for the werewolf attacks, but I don’t think that’s the worst of the news.  I believe there is a war brewing.  As I flew over, I saw mass army camps in the plains.  I say we should strike first before we get hit.” Amora’s voice was firm.
“They have already struck first.  Now it is our turn, but we will make sure Abaddon cannot strike back.”
“Sire, I also have gained an ally.  The Captain of all the Guards is with me.”
“What?!  You can’t trust those people.  They are backstabbers.”
         “ He saved my life.”
Barmond could see and hear that Amora felt strongly for this person.
“Amora, don’t let your emotions cloud your judgment.  These people are known to trick people. Be careful.
         “I will, sire.”
Amora’s face instantly changed to horror.  It was as if she had seen the devil himself.  Her mouth was open and eyes wide, exposing all of her violet irises and the whites of her eyes.
“No, Niniar, stop.  You’re not like that.  Stop, you don’t want to do that!  No, wait, STOP!”  Amora screamed.  A cold chill ran down Barmond’s spine.
         “AMORA!  What is it?”
A horrific scream filled the ears of every one in the room looking at the crystal ball.  Amora was not on the ball.  Then blood splattered across the screen.
         “AMORA!”  Barmond was terrified.

Angy grabbed the book and began to go page by page making sure not to miss anything.  While doing this she asked Wilner what was the memory he had.
“Well it was when I was small.  Charley was talking to me about how everything had a purpose.  Then he said this strange thing.”
“What was it?”  Demanston said, looking puzzled.
“That only seventy-seven pages in the book of life counted, whatever that means.”
Angy looked up at Wilner and realized where the letter had gone.  She turned to page 77 and couldn’t believe her eyes.  There it was.  The letter had been made into a page of the book.
         “I found it,” Angy whispered.
“Let me see and compare it to the one that Mr. Razi gave me.”  Slowly examining them both Wilner could see a small difference, but the rest was the same.
“How did you find it?” Demanston said still trying to figure it out.
“Well, Wilner said something about the book of life and I remember that one of the symbols for life is a                .” Angy slowly closed the book, keeping her finger in the book to keep the page. On the beautifully decorated cover there was an elaborate        made into the cover.
“ I remember Charley always calling his book the Book of Life.”
“Well, now what?”  Demanston abruptly said.
“Now we go to Camelot and look for Lord Copernicus.  He should help us translate these letters.”
“Who is that?” Angy asked puzzled by the name.
“I don’t really know. Mr. Razi made me promise I would go look for him to give him this letter.” Wilner waved the letter as he said this.
“Camelot…that’s really far away.  That’s like a week’s horse ride, a two week walk.  Man are you going to be tired.  That trip is going to suck, or better yet it’s going to be very dangerous and you’re probably going to die. Who knows what you will find. May be we’ll find some werewolves, bears, giant scorpions, and worst of all angry dwarfs. I’d hate to meet one of those guys. With their huge axes and short tempers….man you sure are bound to get killed on this journey. ” Demanston said.
Wilner made a face of worry.
“Can I come?”  Demanston said excitedly.
“If you’re both going to Camelot you need to prepare for a 2 week journey.  Do you know how to get to Camelot?”
“Umm…go north until you hit the city Ferfield. Cross the river and go right, following the Balderes forest till you reach the Plains of Balderes. Then you go north east till you hit the outer gates of Camelot.”
Angy and Wilner looked at Demanston, puzzled at his knowledge of the way to Camelot.
“How is it that you know how to get to Camelot and yet sometime you cant even get to the well without getting lost?” Angy questioned
“Well because I don’t have a map to help me get to the well.”
“O and you have one to get to Camelot?” Wilner said
“Yup.” Demanston pulled a folded parchment out of his pocket and opened it to expose the map on it.
“ I found it in that really high room.”
“You boys best get to packing if you plan on surviving this trip.”

Abaddons’ rage had subsided since his captain had left with the Love Elemental from Camelon. Since then he had ordered for a kingdom wide manhunt. He wanted the pair alive so that he had some leverage in negotiations.
“It’s a sure bet that Love Elemental has contacted her pathetic Stuart. If she was smart she would have told him about Niniar and his knowledge of our defenses.” Abaddon spoke to himself, showing signs of his approaching mental break down.
“My lord, the armies are starting to amass several miles away from the city” Larsin said in an excited voice.
For a second Abaddon expression became chaotic; frenzied, his eyes wide open. He thought ‘ Camelons’ Army is here a lot faster than I could have ever imagined’
“Why did you not tell me this sooner? Why did you not tell me this when they were at the edge of the kingdom? Have you ordered the defenses up you trolup?” Abaddon said this in a frantic voice as he grabbed Larsin and tried to shack him. Of course Larsin was a large full grown 6ft 10in, 300 pound minotaur who was very difficult to move.
“Calm down my lord. OUR armies are outside. Not Camelons’. My lord, you need rest. You may go see the armies in two days when they are fully assembled. This should help your mind relax.”
“Yes, you are right. Wait, you said “our armies”. This not your kingdom, it is mine.” Abaddons voice began to increase with rage. “Are you trying to take over my kingdom? No one can take over my kingdom!”
“No my lord, I didn’t mean that. I meant the armies of Nolava. I shall leave now my lord, but I think you should rest for a few days. The stress is getting to you.” Larsin backed away as he said this. He slipped out of sight after passing the door frame. Abaddon began to breath heavy and sweat a little
“What’s happening to me?”

The sun hadn’t come out yet, but life was stirring in Wilner’s shop. The air was calm and cool. It was a perfect day to begin a long journey to the capital city. Wilner and Demanston were eating fried eggs and some bacon for breakfast, while Angy was finishing up the food sacks that the two teens would eat from for the next two weeks. The sacks consisted of hard cracker bread, pickled sausages, some bottles of tomato sauce and water. This was all that was needed to survive. If they were lucky they would find some food in some town along the way. Wilner showed signs of nervousness, barely touching his food.
“What’s wrong Wilner?” Angy said sounding motherly
“ It just that I’ve never been out of Tafilin. This is all I know. I never have seen many of the creatures of the land. Only in books have I read about them. I don’t think I can leave.”
“Its ok. You will be safe. You always wanted to leave when you were a little boy.”
“Yeah but that was long ago. That was before Charley died. I know that I have always wanted to go to Camelot, but now that it’s really happening……I’m scared.”
“It’s ok. Demanston will be with you. Your best friend.”
Demanston lifted his head from his plate, his mouth covered with yolk and bacon grease, with a puzzled look on his.
“What? ...o yeah I’ll be with you bro.”
Trying to contain her laughter Angy said “It will all be fine. Yes it might be dangerous, but this world is full of danger and risks. If you don’t confront it you will never grow to your full potential.”
“You’re ok with us going, Angy”
“O I’m terrified of you guys going. I don’t want you guys to go, but I know that it must be done. I feel like it’s your destiny. I feel like there is a greater part to this journey than it seems.”
The sun was starting to peek up over the horizon. The roosters were getting ready to wake up most of the residents of Tafilin.
“You should go now. Be safe and may god be with you.” Angy stood up and picked up the plates, putting them in the stone sink.
Wilner and Demanston put on their traveling bags and headed towards the door, with Angy right behind them. They said their good byes at the door and Wilner and Demanston headed out into a new world, never knowing that things had been set in motion to change the lives of everyone in the kingdom and beyond.
