realizing the truth and facing reality....
While comforting a troubled friend,
I’ve not been able to forget what he said
“Life isn’t a bed of roses,”
he told me
but I was too ignorant to understand then.
To me they were words beautifully put together
and I didn’t really know what they actually meant.

Now that the reality dawns upon me
and I begin to see the true picture
the meaning of those words is very clear.
The confrontation with reality is not easy
but with many new lessons I learnt;
one was that not everything could be my way.

I’m no longer the queen of the world I ruled
and it hurts to renounce the throne,
naively upon which I sat.
Painful facts I continue to learn,
Every day seems to kick me hard,
I fall,
bleed,
suffer
but miraculously smile the next day.
with bruises remaining to remind me
that yes, "Life isn't a bed of roses."
