A poem about the First World War.
Victory rose in dirt embalmed -
Another soul forgotten,
The guns have stopped, the troubles calmed,
But the rose lies dead and rotten.

'Lest we forget' they often say,
But they'll never really know,
The pain endured upon that day,
When victory lost its glow.

But in amongst the endless death,
That left a nation torn,
A once so faint and fading breath,
Is suddenly reborn.

A nation’s pride – it's winning shield
Bright skies replace the rain,
For in that once forgotten field
The rose can grow again.
