This is a poem about who or what i couldve been or could still be
The darkness is within
the darkness is with out
and yet that darkness there stands
A single figure eyes aglow with hatred
He sees me and knows that I see him
He knows me I am sure but who
would be so hateful of me
Who could possibly
stand against this
darkness
or perhaps
the darkness stands
against him he speaks all I hear from
this specter of hatred
this creature that even the darkness fears
is but one single word.
"You"
I ask him who he is and he
responds once more with that simple word
but this time the word draws up terror for now
I know that this cruel and hateful thing is me
And yet he is not me. He hates me for not haveing become him
He is all that shattered dreams broken promises and lost wishes
I ever had for myself and now he has come to see me
He steps forward and stares me in the eye hoping I will turn
I want too turn and yet I know
that if I turn if I give in to this horrible creature
who is the me that I am not he will replace me
He will become all I hate in those who rise to the top
he will be me and I will be corrupted to my core
My values my morals and my compassion shall all be extinguished
He haunts me still he is waiting biding his time for he knows that
if I tire too much before my final rest he can take his place and I will
stand on his shoulder giving advice unheeded just as he once did for me.
