This is my first paragraph of the first chapter of my first Novel(a). Your Thoughts? |
“Rouse and Shine! Drop your cocks, and grab your socks! Lets move ladies, you too Agnes,” Barked the cockney Sergeant. Agnes froze. Her torso constricted as she sucked in a shallow breath. Then the scent of English lavender slowly registered and she remembered that voice was nothing but a bad memory. She exhaled, reached over and slapped the snooze bar on her alarm clock then melted back under the covers as those dread memories continued to invade her dream state. They came less rapidly now, nearly 4 years later, not with the same raw urgency as they had in the past. Time had at least lessened the adrenaline flow. Some mornings she woke up normally, other mornings she was on her feet and halfway across the room before it dawned on her that that chapter of her life was closed. This was payback for the 2 years she spent trying to be the first woman to earn the Royal Marines coveted Green Beret. The Royal Marines wanted no part of girl commandos and had thrown up every obstacle they could think of. Each time she found a loophole, a crack in the granite to work her wedge into. On her second attempt, when it became apparent that she would graduate, the admiralty reversed course and started bragging to the press like she was their personal juggling elephant. |
