Fourteen Stairs

Fourteen stairs to heaven…
Is that all it is?
Fourteen stairs to the ones you love?
To eternal bliss?
To eternal joy?
But if there are fourteen stairs up
Then there must be fourteen stairs down.
Down into suffering and despair.
Is it only fourteen?
Maybe there are more.
Surely there are more.
Or perhaps there is no stairway at all
But rather a fatal, stomach-turning drop
From which you can never ascend.
What awaits you there?
A fiery pit?
A heavy grey mist?
Or a never ending blackness?
Are there only fourteen stairs?
Fourteen stairs to pleasure?
Fourteen stairs to pain?
Fourteen stairs to forever?
