A POEM ABOUT SOMEONE RECIEVING A LETTER FROM THERE LOVED ONE AT WAR
THE LETTER TRAVELED SLOWLY
ACROSS THE WIDE BLUE SEA.
I GOT THE LETTER FINALLY,
IT WAS FROM YOU TO ME.
YOU TOLD ME OF YOUR MISERY,
OF ALL WHO HAD DIED TODAY.
YOU TOLD ME OF THE CHILDREN,
OF THE PRICE THEY PAY.
IT SAID YOU MISSED ME DEARLY,
I KNOW THIS IS TRUE.
YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME;
I LOVE YOU TOO!

A LETTER CAME TODAY,
I OPENED IT WITH A SIGH.
YOU ASKED ME WHY YOU WERE THERE,
I CANNOT TELL YOU WHY.
HAD I ALL THE ANSWERS
WHY MEN HAVE TO KILL,
MY HEART WOULD NOT BEAT WILDLY
EVERYTIME I GET THE MAIL.
SOMEDAY I KNOW I WILL OPEN IT,
TO READ THAT YOU ARE DEAD.

I LOOKED INSIDE THE MAILBOX,
NO LETTER FROM YOU THERE.
DID IT GET HELD UP,
OR ARE YOU DEAD SOMEWHERE?
I WAIT FOR YOUR LETTER,
AS DAY TURNS INTO YEAR.
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN ME,
AND OUR LOVE SO DEAR?

WHEN A LETTER FINALLY CAME,
IT WASN'T FROM YOU.
IT SAID YOU WERE KILLED IN ACTION,
MY HEART IT BROKE IN TWO.
I LOOKED ACROSS THE SEA,
MY TEARS, THEY ARE FOR YOU.
