failure was imminent
I was never prepared
for the explosion
why wasn’t it expected

your heart raced you said
mine bulldozed through
my chest

neither of us missed the
elephant in the room

as touches were implied and
eyes tried to avoid
but caught
and held just
a
little
too
long

we turn away
after the pull and the attraction
after the sureness of its existence
memories are pushed back
to the place we go

no address
just a place to come
when the need imposes itself
on us
