a blank verse about the night i met the love of my life |
Parallel lines stretch out in front of me But I’m stumbling around on the stones Feeling clumsy but very much alive. Far away, you’re throwing rocks on the steel. “You should hear it click twice,” or so you say, But I am convinced that you made it up. Analogies are thought and matched by me And I keep thinking how we think alike. We are elevated above the tracks Sitting here on the unstable platform, I feel the urge for paper, rock, scissors , Casting our hand’s shadows on the hillside. The wind blows by faster than expected When the first of two trains comes storming by. The shock of the air hits me and I gasp And hold tight to everything I can. The cars propel forward at constant speed. Even in my ridiculous toboggan, I am Kate Winslet, facing gusting winds. The train continues to rumble ahead, But here I am on the bough of a ship Arms spread, head thrown back like in the previews, (because I never saw the whole movie) Your hand appropriately on my waist. I hear your voice shout, “Do you trust me?” Even though I don’t know the dialogue, I adlib and say of course I trust you. It seems the proper and perfect response. |
