Women tonsure Woman-Society shocked

Mahilpur (Punjab-India) The act no different from the days of medieval Mughal rulers, who tortured and tonsured their subjects to fall in line, this recent incident in India's north-western state of Punjab smacks of similar conditions.

"I cried, I pleaded to my mother-in-law, please don't do this but to
no avail," says thirty year old Rimpi , a Brahmin girl, whose hair
were cut, shaved and face blackened with paint and diesel by women
because she dared to protect the rights of her minor children.
Presently Rimpi is recuperating at a local hospital where she was
admitted with bruises.

Rimpi who had a marital dispute with her husband Manohar Lal had
taken a stay order from a local court, refraining him to transfer land to
his father's younger brother Yogeshwar alias Kaka who according to
Rimpi wanted to take away all their agricultural land.

Yogeshwar a local leader with the hindu radical body RSS and now in police custody, irritated with Rimpi is believed to have conspired the entire drama.
"It's a grave crime in this age and day and the involvement of women
is an indicator of a neo trend", says Senior Superintendent of Police Hoshiarpur district RN, Dhoke, who is working overtime to solve the case and salvage police's battered image.

We've arrested four persons in this connection including a police
constable, Mohinder Singh who hence has been dismissed under section
311 (2) (b), for his involvement in the crime and molesting Rimpi,
adds the SSP.

On the 9th of June four women, namely Sarabjit Kaur (in picture
painting Rimpi's face) Surinder Kaur, Kamlesh Rani and Soma Rani had
approached Rimpi who was staying with her mother's sister at village
Mhemdowal, to help Rimpi settle her marital dispute. "These women can
do anything for money, says SHO Mahilpur Paramjit Singh who is
investigating the case.

Eager to settle, Rimpi unmindful of the designs of the women sat with
them in their Maruti car, who drove her straight to Yogesh's house in
village Sahwa in the neighboring Nawanshahr district where Rimpi's
mother-in-law Kamla Devi, her husband's uncle Yogesh, his son Nabindu
and his wife Bharti waited for her.

"Mercilessly they cut my hair, and Nabindu shaved it with a blade
while a photographer captured the entire scene", claims Rimpi. After
committing this heinous crime the women danced and clapped celebrating
their act after which Rimpi was taken to the nearby Maili Dam with the
assistance of a police head constable who has illicit relationship
with Kamlesh Rani, to be drowned.

"Rimpi is lucky to survive as somebody raised an alarm", says Paramjit
Singh.Rimpi was then brought to Hoshiarpur courts with a bandana on
her head and forced to sign documents. On the intervening night of
tenth-eleventh June, she was dumped at village Dansiwal from where one
of her uncles got her to the Mahilpur Government hospital
