THROUGH THE DOGGY DOOR
Through the doggy door they came
that silly little pair,
the fangless vampire and knight with broken sword
never saw me there.

I watched them hurry through my house,
and followed them, I did.
I wasn’t very happy that
beneath me bed is where they hid.

They laughed and giggled and sighed and said,
“How lucky not to be caught,”
But then I whispered, “Hello there.”
And that’s what changed their thought.

“We will not leave now that we’re here.”
growled the vampire with no fangs.
“No we won’t!” exclaimed the knight
and under my bed with his sword, he bangs.

I stared at them in disbelief,
not certain what to do.
I didn’t want to share my room,
especially with these two.

Suddenly I had a plan
which would make them leave, I knew.
I put my dog under the bed
he loved to play there, too!

They were not bothered by my dog.
In fact, they were quite amused.
I shouted “Please, just go away!”
I was disappointed and confused.

To crowd them out was another thought
that entered my tired mind.
I shoved toys and books under my bed.
Everything that I could find.

That silly pair didn’t seem to care
about all that stuff around.
They just kept playing under there,
making a ferocious sound.

“Excuse me guys, please keep it down!”
I yelled in deep despair.
They climbed right onto my bed
and started pulling at my hair.

“Go away! Go away! I have to sleep!
I have school tomorrow.”
“Oh what a pity, poor little boy.”
They said with no real sorrow.

“Just go away and leave me alone!”
I rolled onto my side.
“You’re no fun at all.” the vampire said.
And under my bed they returned to hide.

I did not want to hear their noise!
I couldn’t take it anymore,
so I closed my eyes, and opened my mouth
and loudly pretended to snore.

“Whatever is that horrible noise?”
I heard one of them say.
“If he keeps this awful ruckus up
antoher place we’ll have to play.”

I smiled widely to myself.
They did not like my snore.
This would finally chase them away
so, I snored much louder than before.

The knight wailed in woe and agony
“I can’t take this awful noise!”
I heard them running from my room.
I watched them tripping on my toys.

I could hear them thumping down the hall
and into my parents room.
In there they did not realize
they would meet their dreadful doom.

My dad was the absolute loudest
snorer of them all.
Soon I heard them screaming
and racing down the hall.

They scurried through that doggy door
and far away they fled,
to find a quiet, peaceful space
under someone else’s bed.
