A look at spousal abuse through the eyes of child
"Sumtimes Daddy
can be funny,
Like the time he
gave me bunny"

She stroked his ears
and reminisced
That was the Daddy
that she missed.

"Sumtimes Daddy
was reel mean.
say bad words,
yell and scweam"

Her eyes grew cloudy
her soul was caged
before my eyes
this baby aged

"He sayed he loved her
Den he hit her
Dats when Mama took
Me wit' her."

She says this
as she wipes a tear.
She looked at me
eyes filled with fear.

"We ran so hard,
we ran so fast.
Den Mama said we're
safe at last"

Thats when her shoulders
began to shake.
For all her life
Her heart will ache.

"Mama drove her
car so quick,
She drove so fast
dat I got sick."

She whispered this
through silent tears.
This baby burdened
beyond her years.

"My Mama drove fast,
but not enuf.
Daddy caught us
He got reel ruff."

I hugged her then
This was too much
She even feared
this simple touch.

"Dats when my Mama,
She made me run.
Sayed don't let im get you
He's gotta gun."

He killed her mother,
Put the gun to his head.
She got away but
Her parents were dead.

"What will happen
to me now?
I can't cook
I don't know how"

When I heard this
oh, how I cried.
I held her close,
at least I tried.

"Don't worry baby,
Granny's here,
And I will hold you
through the years."
