The thought we can't let go??
tuck a curl of mischief
behind its ear
place a cucumber hand
on its flushed cheek
trace a baby’s breath kiss
on its frank crown
pull the feather down
-right up to its chin-
and then smother it
(use a heavy pillow)
smother it now
(you know best)
let it rest
