The winter sky of youth
always so predictable.
Mixtures of gray and white,
cold and barren.
The ancient sun turns in earlier every day,
fatigued from another enduring year
of bright, vibrant settings.
He can’t quite illuminate the late-afternoon sky
like he was once able to.
Not until a mature age
is one able to recognize
the efforts of the old sun
to put beauty in winter's cold ceiling.
With a newfound zest for life
the eldery flame hangs around longer each lingering day
letting the world know
he intends to be our neighbor
for some time to come.
The typical vanilla sky is now
a splashed canvas of angelic art.
Low lavender clouds shadow a backdrop
of electric oranges, blues and pinks.
Such splendor is only recognized
when nature intends it to be.
Spring is just around the corner,
and the golden sun will soon take pride
in giving the Earth a fresh, dewy green.
