Another Tear, Another Day [Chapter Two]

Location: Phoenix Therapy Center

"Hello Kelsi. How was your weekend?" Dr. Levitz asked.

"Fine. I got to hang out with Eric."

"How nice."

"Sure."

Dr. Levitz let the silence linger for a moment before starting up again.

"Kelsi, today I'd like to talk with you about the day you found out about your mother."

"Um...no."

"I think if you talk about it, you'll feel better."

"I doubt it."

"It can't hurt to try right?"

Kelsi sighed. This doctor just wasn't going to give up.

"Whatever."

"Do you remember who told you?"

"Yeah, my dad did."

"Kelsi and Eric I have some...news to tell you." William Potter, the twins' father, said.

"What is it?" Kelsi asked. She was a little annoyed that he had interrupted her television program.

"Your mother and I just got the results back from the doctor." He paused for a moment before continuing. "She has lung cancer."

"You have got to be joking." Kelsi refused to believe that something so horrible could happen to anyone she knew.

"I'm afraid I'm not."

"Did they say anything else?" Eric asked.

"Just that she's going to need a lot of support from her family over the next few months."

"You're lying!"

"Kelsi I swear to God I am not lying to you." William grasped his daughter's shoulders and gave her a gentle shake.

"You have to be. She can't die dad. She can't die!"

"She's not going to die." He said softly.

"Yeah Kels, she's going to be okay." Eric added. He didn't really believe what he was saying though.

"So you were in denial?"

"I guess you could say that."

"And you were angry?"

"I was pissed off. My mom had cancer. Do you know what that means? It means death."

"You know that cancer patients do go into remission sometimes."

"Well I guess that doesn't apply to me, now does it?"

"No Kelsi. This time it didn't apply to you." Dr. Levitz was smiling on the inside. She had made a very important break through on this girl.
