A poem about a soldier, trying to talk to his loved one.
Look at me.
This war-torn complexion and these lost soulless eyes,
Shed their tears, and say their good byes,
It bleeds its innocence under starlit skies,
Look at me, this war torn complexion and these lost soulless eyes.
I can’t help but think the devil’s built me,
Crafted from the bloodshed of our fathers, I just want to be free.
I carry this rifle, and I don’t know why,
Every time I lift it, I just want to sigh.
One more down, one more begun,
This perpetual bloodshed I can’t seem to end,
Has me losing my way, and my wills begun to bend,
Find myself liking it, find myself alone,
Find myself playing in this killing zone.
Look at these eyes, how deep they go,
They search for you now, but tomorrow who’ll know.
I can’t seem to remember, the last time I saw you,
And here I thought love could stop this too.
Can’t stop this killing, can’t stop the bleeding,
Don’t realize how far I’ve gone.
I’ve traveled through hell to face my demons,
But now it looks like their too strong.
Collapsing to my knees, in this morbid pool of blood,
I see your face, even as I’m dragging myself through the mud.
I won’t let go, but I can’t let go even if I were to try,
Because even now these war-torn eyes have wanted to cry,
This war torn complexion wanted to sigh.
As I lay here wondering, if you’re thinking of me,
Wondering if these soldiers would just let me be.
I’m so tired now, can’t seem to keep awake,
So I take these few last words to my grave.
I love you, and I always will,
Even if I must carry my sins on a god forsaken bill
I’ve shed these tears for you, the only thing that’s kept me human
So look at me.
This war-torn complexion, and these lost soulless eyes.
