What if upon that warm summer's day,
Instead of saying hello,
You had smiled and simply walked away?
Or if after that first night,
You had just said goodbye, and never cared to write?

What if you had never held my hand,
Or if we had never taken the time to learn and understand,
Never taking that magical chance,
And had missed out on that very first dance?

What if we had missed out on finding true love,
If we had never learned to trust and forgive,
Never knowing the warmth of each other's touch, love, or the likes thereof?

But you did, and to unanswered heights did our hearts and souls climb.
A love of a lifetime didn't elude us, due to a hearts dismissed rhyme,
An unfulfilled wish
