A unconventional tale of a night at the movies |
I sit in a dark Smokey theatre. The worries of my life Are absorbed by the screen As the projector is turned on And whiteness fills. The screen flashes twice Then the countdown begins. Five frames, And my life will become One amongst hundreds Of extras. Three frames, And I am the lead, The supporting actor. No frames A montage of images Bombard my eyes. A blonde seductress Places her leg on top Of a chair, Lifts her silk dress Just above the knee, And slowly but surely Rolls down her stocking. Inch by sultry inch Beads of passion Travel down my face. Down the side of my nose And over my upper lip. I slide my tongue across Tasting the saltiness. I am satiated By the final inch Of stocking coming off. Her leg is there In all its nakedness, And I let out Sounds of pleasure. Mmm... Mmm... "Shh, Watch the movie!" The next image Is grotesque in nature. A beast of a man appears. A face that is bruised And battered, Scars and Barely healded wounds Cover his chest and back, And all the time He is chained To a rotating disc. While men and women, Horrified by an ungodly thing Throw rotten vegetables. He looks straight at me, And his dark eyes Are not that of a beast, But of a sad Misunderstood creature. One tear swells in his eye, And falls out of the screen On to me. I am washed away By the currents Of a river Of man's inhumanity. I jump to my feet To speak against it, But my voice is muffled By the river. Only loud mumblings come out. "Shh, Watch the movie!" A new, Pleasenter scene appears. It is of Carnival. Everyone is dressed In a crazy custom. I imagine they would Appear like a fantastic Rainbow from above, But who knows, For this is black and white. It must be way past midnight, But there is still More partying to do. Grab your glass Full with champagne, Or some other drink That will do the trick. One of the men stands To tell a joke. I Know I could not hear it, But as if I did If find myself laughing "Shh, Watch the movie!" The last image Is the strangest. There is a man Sitting alone in a dark Smokey theatre. He is staring at a screen, But it is blank. The man just sits And sits And sits Watching nothing. I am compelled to rise, "Stop, Stop it!" I scream, But the only reply is, "Shh, Watch the movie!" |
