War songs which I heard in a different era, now hit me with feelings I never felt before.
I remember when i first heard the songs "99 Red Balloons", "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" and "The War Song" and what they meant to me. "Wow nice tune, luv this guy, these old artists were so good..." etc etc. Now when I hear them, they gives me an absolutely different feeling. The feelings people must have felt during world war I and II. We are not, thank God involved in any such major war and Inshaallah never will. And not only that, there is a war going on next door to us. Plus with some or rather one particular individual thinking he's God almighty, well, get ready for almost anything guys!

"History always repeats itself", how true, oh how true. To think that we feel the same way people did decades ago. That was when these songs were made. That is when words you see below were more than just a song:

"....call out the troops now in a hurry, this is what we've waited for, this is it boys, this is war,....." (99 Red Balloons, Nena)

".....then to my favourite hobby, searching for an enemy....,
......forefinger on the button is he blue or is he red?............" (I Wont Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Nick Kershaw)

"....war war is stupid and people are stupid, and love means nothing in some strange quarters..." (The War Song, Boy George)

"99 Red Balloons" has been sung by more than one artist including Nena in 1985 and Goldfinger in 2000. It's about the atrocities of war and shows its unfairness and destruction and that innocent people are the ones most affected by it. "I Wont Let The Sun Go Down On Me" talks about how easy it is to destroy mankind with just the push of a button. "The War Song" speaks for itself, it basically sums up war in one word, "Stupid"

I wonder how history will judge us? I can already, in my mind's eye, see people, 50 years from now, read up on their history i.e. our present, and judge us how we judged our history. Only we can make sure that our place in history is not looked upon with scorn or contempt. Each and every single one of us, have to play our part to ensure that the legacy we leave behind, is one that would make our coming generations proud.
