A Poem fpr English Class
Sudden Death

Thunder of hooves,
Rapid Breath,
Upon a black horse,
Rides sudden death.

Sweeping through homes.
Winding through streets.
This is one horseman,
You’re not quick to meet.

Halts at a corner,
Neith a street lamp,
Waits for a victim,
Has not long to camp.

On hurries a man,
Shuffle of feet,
Dripping perspiration,
In the midday heat.

Kind is death,
Sending a breeze,
The man looks up,
Feels his heart seize.

Falls to the ground,
Hand clutching chest,
Quickly drifting away,
Into the final rest.

Death’s job is done here,
Watch him gallop away,
But have no fear,
He’ll be back later today.
