I wrote this poem last year, i am now 15 and still devastated.
These are the words of a devastated ninth grader
Who mourns for her generation so bitter
There is not much that I can do
Being only 14, and still in school.
But there is something I can say
Maybe it will change the hearts, of the children of today.

They say, “Stay in school, and get an education.”
Others, “Get drunk and you’ll be filled with devastation”
Where are we? What are we?
The world has changed so much, since back then
When I say back then, I mean in the days of the cotton gin.
Girls, is the light too dim when we dress?
Because obviously we make ourselves look a mess
Boys, it is time to grow up and be like men
You must be your brother’s keeper, and that means his friend
The world has gotten so bitter and dark
Please, my youth, take what I have to say to heart.
And maybe you wont be so naïve and dim-witted

These are the words of a devastated ninth grader
Who mourns for her generation, so bitter
There was not much that I could do
Being 14, and still in school
But there is something that I did say
That will maybe change the hearts, of the children of today.
