My first poem about my heartache over the death of my sweet sister, Lynn. |
With a thought… in a moment, With a breath… in a beat; Our mortal shells are emptied, Eternity to meet. There is no greater tearing, Than the rending of the soul; From fragile bones and sinew, To its new transcendent role. To Avenues of Splendor, With worship far and near; Creation meets Creator, Who wipes ‘way every tear. And welcomes faithful servant, To joy forevermore; One seed spent in sowing, Now reaps a rich reward. For who sees the total picture? Who guides the Master’s hands? We are but clay to the Potter, A single thread in the Weaver’s plan. Shall I who know so little, Judge Fair, and Good, and Right? When crushed by lonely darkness, And blinded by hopeless light. When counselors speak too quickly, To patch a gaping wound; Never knowing time takes healing, Never grasping the Harvest Moon. For fallow ground must be broken, Plowing deeply softens the soul; Through plodding painful seasons, Planting always exacts its toll. So don’t hurry the Plower in His work, Or He’ll plow the field again; Ever preparing for the Harvest, Of a spouse, a neighbor or friend. Deafen yourself to mortal wisdom. And well-meaning platitudes; But heed the “still small voice”, Softly, whispering to you. Killing Quiet…Silent healing Finish your work I pray! Holy Spirit embrace me now, Through this fire and water way. For I have no were else to go, Except into your loving arms; To trust the work you’re doing, And your grace to make me strong. As a father has compassion, For a child who can but cry; God is near the broken hearted, The crushed in spirit catch His eye. So trust the heart of God Almighty, And listen not to the father of lies; Trust the Author and the Finisher, Trust the love of El Shaddai. To restore, establish and strengthen, Is a promise He will keep; When the Harvest Moon is ready, Sorrow sown will joyful reap. © Memorial Day Weekend 1995 by Kevin Rishell Following the death of his sister, Lynn and after hearing a song that essentially said, when we don't understand the "why" and what the hand of God has allowed to happen, that's when we need to trust His heart. |
