Details a dream I had that brought back old memories and new feelings. |
Antique glass glittered on every surface. Lamps, stained glass windows, jewelry and all manner of old fashioned trinkets covered every inch. I found myself in a theme park of the past, literally. The roller coaster did not light up or twist upside down, but still I found it preferable to anything in Disneyland. This roller coaster dipped and plunged from room to room in a strange antique palace. The baubles and teardrops of glass rustled and clinked as the car passed. Imagine yourself at a party from the Great Gatsby where the women’s jewelry chimes and jangles as they dance, that is what it was like. All the blues grays purples and brass spun like a kaleidoscope. I gazed around in wonder and my stomach did a back flip when I discovered who was by my side. He sat beside me and laughed when the coaster descended so fast I lifted off my seat. I gripped the front of the car tightly and saw his hands beside mine. I smiled and wondered why he was there with me… It didn’t matter, whatever the reason his presence was a comfort. Dreams should always be so pleasant. Maybe one day I will tell him about the dream, he’ll laugh and I will smile because I made him smile. The next day I told my best friend about my strange nighttime adventure and it’s even stranger inhabitant. She delightedly informed me of an incident almost four years ago when I played with that same boy on the giant swings in Great America. She told me how he pushed me and how I had laughed. I can’t remember, but I remember my antique dream, that sparkling allusion of a forgotten memory and new feelings. Life is a roller coaster, but the past is all around us. |
