Review of Casting A Spell  Open in new Window.
In affiliation with The WDC Angel Army  Open in new Window.
Rated: E | (5.0)
Hello there, AmyJo-Downhill slide begins!

*Ghost*

Thank you for responding to my Newsfeed request for Horror/Halloween type Word Searches!

Opening Thoughts:

Ooooh, I love the unique puzzle of words pertaining to ingredients used in witchy spells. *WitchHat* I do have an affinity to snail slime. *SnailB* *Rolling*Seriously, you had some great ingredients to uncover on the tile.

Further Thoughts:

It was a fairly quick solve as many of the words were longer ones. There's only so many places they could hide. *Sneaky*

Parting Thoughts:

I had a great time gathering the ingredients for a bit of hocus pocus. Hopefully I don't mix my mushrooms with my fingernail cuttings. That would be a scratchy potion to swallow. *Sick*

Conclusion:

Wonderfully creative and unique Halloween Word Search Puzzle for this Spooktacular time of year!

Good job! *Cat*

Until next time--puzzle on!

Thank you for responding to my request for a Horror/Halloween themed Word Search puzzle. *Knife*

I'm thrilled to do this hot off the press word search.

"With some villains,
their reputation precedes them,
so only a first name is provided."

Absolutely true! I loved that I could picture the villians in my mind while uncovering them on the tile.

Further Thoughts:

This is a slasher/freak & fiend fest in 25 words. All of it fun! *Web4*
I managed to uncover all the characters without having to dig too deep. *Grave*

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

This was an entertaining puzzle. was happy to see some of my favorite horror story villains. Hey, you even threw in Hannibal! *Bottle4* *Glass2*

hi staiNed *Wave*

It's funny I just put a request out on the Newsfeed for some horror-type word searches. I decided to check the Browse By Type page to see if there were any I haven't seen before. I know I played one of your horror-theme searches the other day, but saw this one on that first page that I haven't played. *Puzzle2*

What I Liked:

I really like getting into the Halloween spirit, seeing tomorrow's October 1st. This fills that bill with its horror themed movie objects. What a way to satisfy the blood lust surrounding all things horror and spooky.

Parting Thoughts:

I had a jolly old time uncovering the hidden words that relate to horror shows. I'm glad I found this one. I will be out searching for more seasonal fun and spooky themes during this upcoming month.

Conclusion:

SuperHorrorPuzzle-ishis with ExtremeGhost-Oshes! *Vamp* *Rolling*

You knew I'd be all over this one. I believe I saw your teaser of it on the Newsfeed. It was right in front of my face so I couldn't resist.

What I loved:

I am a huge fan of Downton Abbey and especially the character of Violet. I loved that you created this puzzle about Dame Maggie Smith and some of the many roles she's played over the years. I was saddened by her passing, yesterday. I felt like this was a fond remembrance of her memorable characters. She was so very talented!

Further Thoughts:

Your choice of roles she's played to uncover in the puzzle were good picks. It made me think outside Downton Abbey to other movies I loved watching her in. I enjoyed Sister Act with her playing a Mother Superior nun. *Laugh*

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

Thank you for creating this Word Search puzzle in honor of Maggie Smith. She will be remembered fondly. *Heart*

You did a wonderful job! *Puzzle2*

Rated: E | (5.0)
Hello, Chris Breva *Wave*

I searched for a different type of subject matter word search and found this one. Area 51 -- how cool is this to tackle!!! *AlienG*

What I liked:

I enjoyed finding so many key words that we associate with Area 51. I keep X-Files in my mind while I solve it. There were always good shows dealing with aliens and super secret bases. *AlienGr*

Further Thoughts:

This is a good size puzzle--25 words which fills a tile practically to the brim.

Most were jump-out words that were easy to find. I think bigger words tend to be easier to uncover than shorter words that hide deeply within the tile. There are exceptions to that observation of course ... It took me light years to find "light years" *Laugh* It was the last hidden word I found in the puzzle.

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

I really enjoyed playing this puzzle. It has interesting subject matter and gave me a bit of a challenge at the end. It wakes the brain to tackle other chores to do for the day. *Alien*

Good job!

Hi staiNed *Wave*

I found your Word Search puzzle on the Activities@Writing.com page!

It was right there in front of me. A brand spanking new word search for me to play. I couldn't resist--it was just meant to be! *Ha*

What I liked:

You had me at Horror Weapons! *Ax* What a unique and timely puzzle this is. It's almost horror month on WDC with October and leading up to Halloween.

Additional Thoughts:

It is a good size, 20 words to uncover. I had fun finding those weapons and thinking of the movies they are associated with. *Knife*

I approached this one differently than I usually do. It takes discipline to do it this way. I did it word by word, first column up to the third. I felt so organized in my weapon search! *Laugh*

Usually, I just scan the puzzle and grab obvious jump-out words. This was kind of fun to do in order of their place on the list.

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

Well, I'm delighted I found a new puzzle to play that gets me in the Halloween horror movies mood! *Vamp*

Good job! *WitchHat*

Hello there, krichtig

I came across this word search puzzle. I've become very fond of playing these puzzles, lately. Yours showed up on the page where I pressed completely random on the puzzle page type.

Why I decided to stop in and play?

It was the title. I remember the Golden Girls fondly. Actually, my mother had watched them when they first came out and I hadn't done so, yet. I called her one evening and she said, "Could I call you back? I'm watching the Golden Girls." *Laugh* Then my curiosity got the best of me and I turned the show on. Well, needless to say, I got to love the show, too.

Further Thoughts:

Your 25 word puzzle was a joy to work. I loved all the words related to Golden Girls. As I uncovered each of them, I had memories of the show and those priceless characters. I even made one mean cheesecake! *Laugh*

Parting Thoughts:

What a joy it was to find this word search puzzle. It brought me back to those "Golden" days! *Gold*

Conclusion:

It is indeed a wonderful tribute to the comedic genius that was this series!

Good job!

Until next time--puzzle on!

I am reviewing your poem because it popped up on the random Read & Review, click. *Smile*

Initial Impression:

Your title and brief description honor those who have put life and limb on the line to keep our country free and safe. *HeartW*

Further Thoughts:

No better or truer words have been said than the ones your poem so meticulously expresses. I love that you were able to paint a vivid picture using 11 lines.

The form is an acrostic that spells out Memorial Day. It is well-crafted to make or an easy flow from one letter to the next. You use a wrap when needed, to maintain flawless flow of sentence structure. Many times I've read acrostic poems that end each line on the letter that is the beginning of the sentence. This could make for short clips of thoughts rather than expanding in a natural way.

Kudos for using the poetic options that keep the imagery of the poetry flowing smoothly in our mind's eye without causing a undue pause in the reading.
*Quill*

Parting Thoughts:

Manifesting into the greatest nation
Solemn Remembrance
Radical elements

These are strong words that remind a reader what serving our country is really about. *Salute*

Conclusion:

Wonderful poem that tells the truth and touches the heart. *Helicopter*

Hello there, kenl

My Thoughts:

I found your word search puzzle on the "Browse By Type." I enjoy doing Word Search puzzles. *Bigsmile*

This is a very interesting puzzle to uncover, about searching for the names of minerals within the tile. I love these types of puzzles with a refreshing subject matter. *Writer*

Further Thoughts/Suggestions:

I just have a little suggestion. I think you should have and image and a few lines, different font/color above the tile that will make it eye appealing and draw a player in. However, the puzzle itself is interesting and fun. It was a smooth solve which makes it entertaining as well as fun! *Puzzle3*

Conclusion:

It gets 5.0 stars from me for the entertainment value. *ThumbsUpGreen*

Hello ~LadyBee~

I came across your Bee-utiful word search puzzle doing a random choice on Browse By Type. The busy bees buried within, convinced me to try to at least wing it. *Bee*

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed uncovering all those 25 words on the tile that have things to do with bees. It was a well developed puzzle with a crossover word hidden within another word such as "honey" within the word "honeycomb." Most were easy to find. A few kept me bumbling around tile like a drone locked out of the nest. *Laugh*

Further Thoughts:

I think this puzzle will be all the buzz for those who play it. Buzzing was the first word to jump out at me. Nest was the last. It's those smaller words that get themselves well hidden.

I'd say this was a moderate level puzzle. A couple stings along the way, but then it was as sweet as honey.

Parting Thoughts:

I enjoyed the puzzle. But I also loved your intro over the top of the tile. Your bitty-bee game kept my bee-brain busy.

Conclusion:

It's BEEn fun! *Honey*

Good job!

I found this word search on the Search By Type, click. I almost went past it thinking I had done it before, since I have been doing many of these puzzles, lately. I was happy to see I had not done it before. *Delight*

My Thoughts:

This is an interesting author. I have not read any of her books, but I will check them out. I enjoy murder mysteries. She is a Canadian writer. I liked that she chose Quebec to place her characters and scenes. I spotted many French words. Montreal is my where my mother's parents were from. *Quill*

Further Thoughts:

The tile had 25 words to uncover having to do with Louise Penny's stories. You enthusiastically praise her writing and how she brings her characters to life. That makes for a believable story that a reader can sink her brain into! *Brain2*

Parting Thoughts:

This was a well-crafted word search that gave the solver a couple cross-over words to find, which is always fun once you've learned that sometimes, you just need to highlight over a word that was already uncovered such as the word "poet" inside the word "poetry."

Conclusion:

Good job! *XY*

I am reviewing this item because I've been on a search for interesting word searches since I saw them flying by the review pages during "Game of ThronesOpen in new Window.. They caught my interest at that point. *Sword2L*

My Thoughts:

I enjoy doing these activities to switch it up bit when reviewing. It is something that draws a player in and keeps them engaged while trying to solve the puzzle. It also makes it a contest with one's self to beat their best solve time. Of course that depends on the difficulty level. *Magnify*

I've done 25 word puzzles that were easier than some 12-15 word puzzles. Sometimes words get lost easier when there are lots of blank spaces left on the tile. *Puzzle2*

What I loved:

I loved finding Stephen King stories. In this puzzle, Misery was the first word that jumped out at me. And, The Shining was the last. That hid itself for a while, but I got it. *Bigsmile*

Parting Thoughts:

You have a great intro over the tile. Sometimes a a couple lines of introduction in colored font pulls a reader in faster than a couple words saying "Have fun!"

Conclusion:

I had fun solving it, and enjoyed the subject matter.

Good job! *Spider*

Hello, Innerlight circa 2014

I've been visiting your Word Search puzzles a lot, lately it seems. This one got my attention. *BurstO*

I love bird watching. It's been one of my favorite pastimes. *Bird* I loved the birds you had listed. I could picture most of them in my head, whether it was bird watching up North or down in Florida. They are always so amazing to watch. *Cherry*

Observation:

"Cedarwaxing" *Right* Should be spelled "Cedarwaxwing"

Parting Thoughts:

This was 25 wonderful birds to uncover on the tile. It was pretty simple until the end. There was repeat of the word SWALLOWS, and even though all words were crossed out on the tile, the tile did not turn green showing everything was uncovered. The, my eyes caught the second Sparrows. I went over it again on the puzzle and voila! *Bigsmile*

Conclusion:

This is a very enjoyable puzzle for anyone who loves birds the way I do!

Good job!

Review! *Angelic*

I've been seeing things with 13 in them today for some reason. *Laugh* I saw this little item and decided to check it out.

Initial Thoughts:

Love 13th floor horror stories. I like immensely that this was to be a 100 word story that will be spooky about the 13th floor.

Further Thoughts:

I wasn't disappointed. You did a fine job of bringing out the eerie story in so few words. *Cat*

The whole malevolent voices when she stopped on the 13th floor and entered the hall and made it to the room that had a slightly opened door, was spooky. Yes, her questioning the mysterious 13th floor when she exited the elevator where the 12th floor was the last floor in the hotel, brings on the shivers.

The idea of skipping the 13th floor is due to superstitions. 13 happens to be my favorite number. *Angelic* I've actually stayed on the 13th floor in a hotel in Boston many years ago. At that time, many hotels went from floor number 12-14. *Web2*

Parting Thoughts:

This was a perfect quick read that filled the mind with so much imagery. Writing a story in 100 words takes talent. You've got just the right words to make it a short but eerily sweet horror story. *Piano*

Conclusion:

Great job! *Ghost*

I came across this word search you created recently. I'm pretty fond of these puzzles and decided to give it a try. *Smile*

First Thoughts:

The search consisted of 25 words having to do with a barbecue. There were many reminders of those grilling times in the summer. However, those days are getting shorter since autumn is almost upon us.

Further Thoughts:

The puzzle, though a pretty full tile, was not a difficult level puzzle to solve. It was what I call a relaxing word search that is enjoyable. It doesn't give me brain sweat. *Laugh* I love doing these puzzles whether a difficult level or not because it distracts the mind from dreary things that need to be done, such as chores. *Broom*

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

This was a delightful puzzle to solve. It brought me back to all the fun times that go along with grilling, and friends and family -- and of course, the food! *Bigsmile*

I am also reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall ContestOpen in new Window.. Thank you for entering our Beat The Heat Flash fiction contest in August. *Sun*

First Thoughts:

The brief description was humorous. It drew me into the story. *Ha*

Further Thoughts:

It is amusing trying to have Alaska's heat more like Russia's cooler temps. I'm thinking Alaska is cool enough in the summer--relatively. But hey, the point is there were undertones of an evening of hot and heavy, involving puncture marks I imagine. So I guess the heat was between the two of them more than the external temperature outdoors. *Temphot*

This*Right* "The days were hot and sweaty. At least 666°... well maybe only 66°..." *Laugh* That shows something Supernatural is in the air of that statement. *Devilish*

Observations:

humididdy? Did you mean to spell it that way? (Humidity)

I thought there was a bit of a pause while reading this. I get the vampire thing. The emoticon *Vamp* pretty much made sure of that. I just wish there were a way it was shown a little clearer in the writing.

However, the realization came through and the humor also rose to the top. *Bigsmile*

Parting Thoughts:

This was a pretty quirky story. It followed the rules by highlighting the prompt words and placing the word count below. It also kept within the word count limit of 300.

Conclusion:

Fun imagery popped into my mind's eye! *DropR*

Review!

I am also reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall ContestOpen in new Window.. Thank you for entering our Flash Fiction, Beat The Heat prompt in August. *Sun*

First Impression:

I like the title you chose. It implies a sense of urgency. That means there is something about to happen that could mean danger or even death.

Further Thoughts:

This is certainly a different take on the prompt. I wasn't expecting the dire situation faced by this passerby who saw 2 dogs in the car, in the brutal heat. It makes the reader angry that such a thing was done by their owner. It also seemed a likely chance that the "good Samaritan" would attempt to rescue the dogs. And indeed it set forth to do such a thing. *Dog1*

Observations:

You have followed the rules by highlighting the prompt words and by placing the word count at the bottom. You also kept within the 300 word count limit.

Further Observations:

This story had a 300 word count limit. You wrapped up this story in 194 words. There could have been more opportunity to flesh out the characters. A sentence on who the good deed neighbor was as well as the dogs' owner.

The ending states the vet performed a miracle. How?
*QuestionY* Who was the vet?
*QuestionGr* Was it one of the two characters there?
*QuestionO* Was another character unknown?
*QuestionR* Did this happen there, or were the dogs taken to another place to get help?

So many questions that may have been answered with a few more lines, while staying within the word count.

Parting Thoughts:

I like the subject matter of your story. It does touch the heart to see someone trying to save the innocent dogs. After all, he didn't know where the owner was and how long he'd been gone from the car.

Another thought is that the wrong interpretation of the scene could make matters worse for the dogs. Quite a conundrum it is. *Worry*

Conclusion:

Other than the points brought forward above, this is a fine story in the making. It just needs a little tweaking for more depth while keeping within the word count limits.

Well done!

Until next time--write on!

WebWitch *Witch*

This is a "The WDC Angel ArmyOpen in new Window. Review! *Angelic*

I found your very interesting word search puzzle on things relating to dogs. I must say you are very knowledgeable in this field. *Dog1*

My Thoughts:

It's a 25 word puzzle. That's a good size for a word search. It does have some issues where longer, hyphenated words are concerned. Sometimes, the word runs out of tile and just doesn't fit in. *Puzzle3*

Example: calm/assertive-energ the [y] didn't fit in the tile.

I liked the different breeds of dogs and the words relating to their training and well-being. It was a good selection of terms you used. *HighlighterB*

Observation:

You may want to edit this puzzle for this: "Boarder-Cillie" I'm sure you meant to spell it Border Collie. I know that because I have your Border Collie exclusive MB. *Bigsmile*

Conclusion:

This word search puzzle has a wonderful subject matter. It's fun and educational.

Those are fun because you have to be extra careful and be sure to hit the smaller word hidden within the bigger one so it gets crossed out. When I first started doing these it took a while to discover the last word inside the fully green tile. *Puzzle1*

Parting Thoughts:

I have enjoyed the Wonderland puzzles that I've spotted about. I know this activity was pretty intense for those of you who took part in Kiya's creation. I'm happy she added doing the word search as a challenge. I've been having fun! *Rabbit2*

Conclusion:

Good job!

Until next time--puzzle on! *Puzzle2*

I am also reviewing your item as a judge at "The Bard's Hall ContestOpen in new Window.. Thank you for entering our August Prompt, Beat The Heat, flash fiction.

My Thoughts:

I like the use of the prompt to help solve a huge problem in the deserts; sufficient water resources. Yes, the area is plentiful in oil but lacks the water to irrigate crops. It is the big question of resources and how to be able to share or combine in a way to keep necessities going. However, it's not a simple solution. Oil is very much in demand for nations needing fuel. Perhaps one day it could be figured out how to get sufficient water to the more arid places. I doubt messing with Mother Nature is going to accomplish that. It seems doing so messes up some other resource or destroys areas through flooding as is demonstrated in your story.

Further Thoughts:

You did a good job with the prompt. I like the scientific approach even though the solution proved devastating to others who had to deal with floods.

The "guthra" popnote was helpful. Thank you. *Smile*

Parting Thoughts:

You followed the rules:

Highlighted the prompt words *CheckGr*
Placed word count with item *CheckO*
Kept within the 300 word count limit *CheckP*

Conclusion:

Good job! & Good luck with the contest! *GoLucky*

Hello Jenn Webster

Initial Thoughts:

I came across your word search puzzle by clicking on the "Browse By Type" over there on the left side. I love scanning those Word Search options finding something different and educational in some cases.

Further Thoughts:

This was an educational type whereby the words to uncover are synonyms for the word "disturb." Puzzles like these stretch the mind for writers to use words outside the common word. It brings more depth to our story writing. I like that! *Bigsmile*

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

This puzzle was fun to do and relaxing. It wasn't one of those that strained the brain, which can become tedious when looking for a game to play to pass the time in between other chores. I'm delighted I found this out of the many pages of Word Search puzzles to pore through, to find the right one for the current mood of the player. *GameBuddy*

Good job! *Mallet*

Until next time--puzzle on!

I came across this fun quiz in your Official WDC Romance Newsletter. *InLove2*

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed taking this puzzle since When Harry Met Sally is an old-time favorite movie of mine. I love the romantic tension between the two good friends and how that comes to light in such a humorous way. I think Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal were perfect for this movie. They had the chemistry needed to pull the movie together and make it a classic romantic comedy. *PotionR*

Further Thoughts:

Your quiz had some good questions that were not too simple. One had to reach into the cobwebs and picture the story in their mind. I guess I will never forget the restaurant scene. Classic! *Laugh* I still picture Rob Reiner's mom's response. *Rolling*

Parting Thoughts/Conclusion:

Great puzzle. Medium difficulty level, and all round fun bringing us back to that movie that brought us a memorable romance that developed between two good friends. *Puzzle3*

Good job! *Web1*

Until next time--puzzle on!

I am also reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall ContestOpen in new Window. Thank you for entering our August "Beat The Heat," flash fiction prompt. *Bigsmile*

Initial Thoughts:

Curious brief description. I sensed a conflict of ideas and sense of humor would be involved. *Ink1*

Further Thoughts:

This was a clever take on the prompt by adding science, mistakes in science and a young assistant saving the day. It goes to show you, jumping to conclusions in science never works out well. *Laugh* Benny is quite the bright assistant. I like how the ending turned out. It could have been devastating! *Recycle*

Parting Thoughts:

You followed the rules, prompt. The Prompt words were highlighted in bold font. Also, the word count was within 300 words and given at the bottom of the entry. *PaintP*

Conclusion:

Good job! *KeyC*

I am also reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall ContestOpen in new Window.. Thank you for entering our August "Beat the heat" flash fiction contest. *Bigsmile*

First Impression:

I love the title. How Greek god of you. Adonis, the god of beauty and desire. I knew what to expect just by the title. I also knew I'd enjoy the "heat" by the pool. *Temphot* There was nothing more to do except dive right in. *Smirk*

Further Thoughts:

Your expertise on all subjects romance is impeccable, of course. I always enjoy reading the hot and spicy stories you write. It is a gift, of course. I loved your descriptions of the Adonis, his movements and especially his chocolate eyes. What a dreamy pool that is to imagine diving into. *InLove2*

Your story is told through a writer's mind setting the scene in her head, and becoming the voyeur that pulls the reader right into the story as if participating in the fantasy with the Adonis. Pretty sensual, indeed. *Plug*

Parting Thoughts:

You wrap up the story perfectly. A bit of humor which is always a fine ending. *Cool*

Conclusion:

Good job! And, good luck with the contest. *PenB*
