Lobelia,
Although this seems to be a personal struggle to understand someone, its simplicity is very thought provoking. A look into ones self for understanding of our place in our own circumstances. It could as easily been named "Understanding Misunderstood".
I personally love short poems like this that have depth far beyond word count. That is what I like to refer to as the poems "surprise" or "Easter egg".
Love it!!
Harry,
Well said... things that anyone with hate in their heart should read and contemplate. Unfortunately it is only those who are victims or we who think deeply about these things that understand. It is the brute that wields the fist that does not think; the one that lets the acts of war "dehumaniz(ing) them bit by bit until they tolerate terrible acts", that refuses to think.
I hope that your poem gets at least one to think.
You said in your note that " This is more uplifting than I usually write, more like a sermon." If so I would encourage you to write more like it. It is a beautiful message and more people should come to understand the true human condition as you do.
To be honest I like rhyme more than prose but whenever a poet tells her truth it is beautiful.
