I thought this was a wonderful piece and really hit home to me. Both my girlfriend and I suffer from chronic pain disease and are on a great deal of medication to control the pain. In fact I am on 22 tablets a day and my girlfriend is on 43 a day most of hers being morphine based. We have been on these now for 4+ years and will be for the rest of our lives. Obviously as bodies become immune the doctors will chop and change them every once in a while but basically we will be on the same amount. Constantly our friends and family are trying to get us off our tablets thinking that the amount we take can not be healthy and they are probably right. On some level they probably aren't doing us any good but they are, unfortunately, a neccessary evil. Without them we would not be able to move let alone function. So I see a lot of similarities between mine and my girlfriends situations and what you've written about here. I think you've got your points across very well as well as the feelings involved.
