What wonderful prose! Fantasy, history, romance, twisted plots, vital characters..your intro leaves the reader breathless for more..well-thought story line and the plot only thickens as it engrosses the reader's mental & emotional persona..the only thing left to say is "More, give us more!"
Shades of 'Pathfinder"!! I believe the same way..it's the silent one lurking in the dark that truly terrifies me..We must hold out hope and light to those 'who refuse to see and choose to remain so blinded'..knowledge of one's self, the truest center, gives one the ability to act..not react..or ignore..thanks for sharing!!
Interesting take on ghosts..what truly is, may not be as we have been taught at all..and how fun to be able to 'see' them..and then, to not be afraid..curiouser and curiouser..do hope that you will consider continuing this story..it is current and ancient at the same time..what fun..
What wonderful visual symmetry you create with your epic words! Thanks so much for sharing..'tis truly a story woven explicitly for a bard's tongue, caressed forever by the golden chords of memory. Such notes played upon a crystal-clear olden harp would turn many a head and lighten the burden of any heavy heart. Please, write more!
I know the photo that you chose to write a story about for November's contest..this has got to be, by far, the best weave of an inspired imagination that I've had the pleasure to read in a very long time.
Just what is that 'one thing'? Leaves the reader alone with their suddenly thudding heartbeat and shortness of breath, doesn't it? Write On!!!!
Ouch!!!!The 'truth' will out..It takes a warm, truly caring human being to face themselves in their darkest moments and 'own' whatever awful 'thing' that over-rode their gentle self and 'would win at any cost'. But note this!....if we were not in touch with the darker side of our selves, how would we have the knowing that there is a good, lighter side of us to balance it all?!
If you feels you need to rectify things, just simply handle it..beating yourself up and then doing nothing about it.. is to be nothing ..Create, Enjoy, Inspire and above all Experience!!!!
What a great tribute to a musical master! Just a quick note..I found this piece of writing through another website that had the information onthe Halling Valley, travelling via the Honefoss, information that I needed. How small is this world of ours anyway!
Now I understand why for so much of our past times on this planet we passed down the truth via our oral historians..this is just such a tale that would have held all who could hear in its' thrall..There is much to be gleaned from this telling..and a wonderful lesson it is to be happy with who and what you are..very well written and thought-out!!
No doubt about it! Keep on with keepin' on! I would like to read more of your writing..Your grasp of how to bring all of the small details and weave them into a scene is truly good..and I think any one who has attended school has had most of these experiences..you have a really neat storyline here and I would like to read more!
So sad an ending for earth-magic..so, if that is what becoming the leading nation for technology advancement and the soul-less machinery that accompanies it..the elementals and olden gods must be writhing in pain and grief..humans will glean and take until every last bit of wholeness and greeness and harmony has been reaped..well-put..study of the olden cultures and their practices may well be the saving of ourselves..everything was not put here for humankind's use and abuse and I believe you have more of a story to tell than this...it's a great lead-in and here's hoping you continue!!
You set a wonderful scenario..Now, who could this prisoner truly be..perhaps a 'barbarian' captured skulking about within her country's walled perimeter?
Or, more aptly put..a stranger in an even stranger land? There are an endless variety of angles that could be written of here..the problem would lie in which direction(s) to take the reader..historical, futuristic, mythological fantasy..on and on..it's a wonderful beginning..weave your word-magic and take us there..
Such a terribly sad state of affairs for this worldly realm..I truly do not believe the scale of 'who cares anyway' that's running amok everywhere on this planet..'make it matter' might be a thought for you on the title of this piece..or perhaps an even better one: '(the real) anti-matter..
Okay..so where is the rest of this story? You are doing a great job of descriptive scene-setting, (is that a word?)and I think that I could smell that coppery-burnt smell of blood mixed in with the stench of death! Magic and ley-lines..Seeress and healers..fine knights and gifted, troubled boys..all woven within a loom of intrigue..more!
This was a well-spun piece of 'Americana'. I could just feel the heat of a really long summer day segue into evening. Sort of a 'Mark Twain'ish' angle to it with the three boys with idle hands making up and doing all kinds'ornery things. It is from such unabashed story-telling that our best legends and myths are derived. Everyone at some time or another has had a relative and/or close friend of the family spin these wool-gathered thoughts into a weave of story-line. I truly enjoyed this and would like to read some more of your work.
Written with a finessed flair for drama..ah yes..the game..to hold supreme power in the palm of your hand..and throw the mix of equal opposites into the bargain and what do we have?! The most clever of harmonic balancers..what works as a game in one level may well be the truth of it all in another parallel yet equal dimension..
One would hope that you will feel driven to complete this tapestry that you are weaving..
H-mm-mm-mm...what can one say..Excellent prose..your weaving the threads of one exceptional purveyor of words into the warp of an entire reader's world..what an intricate pattern we all are capable of if given but half of a chance..insightful and poignant..just like life..should we but choose to walk our path and not just 'speak of it'..
(After reading your 'lights on the mountains' piece I decided to look for more of your writings..
Great food for thought! Every one is searching for the 'why'..introspective knowing is just one of the wonderful things that show us what it truly means to be a sentient human just being!
