Recently I read Stephen Kings The Stand (uncut version). Normally when I am reading I will play music in the background, for whatever reason. However I found myself submerged in the world he created and marvelled at how things matched up, to the point where music was a distraction.
I dont know how long you spent refining these thoughts but they are very very true. The great thing about literature is that the characters represent ideas- and those ideas are relevant to everyone. That is why I think movie versionjs of novels are so disappointing- trying to put a face on a freeform, moving, constantly changing idea.
An amateur writer at best, I struggle to engage myself in the story I am writing as much as I would like a person to be reading it.
A noble pursuit.
