Hello,
This is a nice piece. I have worked in long term care and can tell you that this reminds me very much of an individule with sun-downers.
When you are the sort of person who waxes poetic, working with the elderly is something else. It's inddefinable the feeling you get when they are totally lost in time. I once had lunch with a lady, at a cafe in France, and we enjoyed the cuisine and the atmosphere, she told me all about the places she had seen that day on her trip. All while we sat at a boring table in a dull hospital dining room.
In long term care, they tell you to "orient people in reality." I never liked doing that, I would rather have lunch in Paris. Your piece made me think of that. And the gradual understanding that the letter isn't from the 30ish year old man, and she didn't find it on the kitchen counter... you know, that he is there in the home writing it.
Nicely done. You should submit it to nurse's aid/nursing training publishers. I took the CNA and there were similar pieces in some of the workbooks and hand outs.
