Review of A SAILOR'S WISH
Review by ParrotHead
Rated: E | (5.0)
I loved this poem! I am not in the navy but I know the pull of the sea. There is a great book called "Reflections on a Marine Venus" by: Lawrence Durrell that says: "Somewhere among the note-books of Gideon I once found a list of diseases as yet unclassified by medical science, and among these there occurred the word Islomania, which was described as a rare but by no means unknown affliction of the spirit. There are people, Gideon used to say, by way of explanation, who find islands somehow irresistible." From one Islomanist to another, I love this poem. It will now be on my list of favorites. Thank you.

This was so much fun to read. My friends & I are always giving each other a hard time about anything & everything & this reminds me so much of that. You did a good job of bringing the funny mocking type of humour that close friends share. Only close friends could mock each other so harshly & it still be funny. Loved this poem, so funny. Thanks again.

That is to funny! I was not expecting that at all. I honestly find comedy to be the most challenging genre to write. In my opnion it takes more skill to make people laugh than any other form of writing. Everytime I see your handle on something I know I am going to enjoy the next few minutes of my day. Honestly very funny, thanks again.

This is so very true & typical of the average small town kid. I grew up in a small town in the great state of Tennessee. Most of the kids I grew up with all said they could'nt wait to leave. Most of them are still here & most are doing basically the same stuff as they were doing in highschool. Small towns are the best & it is nice to read sonething praising them. Enjoyed your writing. Thank you.

This is just to cool. I have always been interested in the Keyes. Thank you for compiling so many cool facts about this area.

I envy you in so many ways. I wish I could have lived this life at least for a while. Oh well, we can't all do it. Takes a special kind of person. Keep writing about it so all of us arm chair adventurers can live vicariously through you at least for a few fleeting moments.

I love stuff about tropical location's & your writing really delivered. Wow, I felt like I could smell the sea & hear the waves rolling in. I especially loved the part about the freckled shoulders & the "beach hair". I cracked up. You just really nailed it for me. Made me feel like I was there. Loved It. I know nothing about proper punctuation or grammar. I just know if I like something or not & I like this. Thanks.

You are an amazing talent in my opinion. I think you have a real future in writing. I hope you go for these dreams you speak of in your poetry. Travel, explore, adventure, just go live life. Your writing will benefit & so will you. You will never regret going for your dreams even if you don't reach them but you will always regret not going for them at all. Especially if you settle to make soneone else happy.

You are probably right. This is probably what will happen to you, but it does not have to. I am now officialy in my thirtys & I have the wife, the kid's, the mortgage & all that jazz. It is a good life & I am happy but... Do not live to regret missed oppurtunities. When you are married with kids & you have bills to pay & people depending on you then you cant just run off to Spain and become an Orange farmer. Do it now. Do it for all of us that did'nt & wish we could. And remember what a wise man once said, "Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you too can become great" - Mark Twain. I truly enjoyed your writing. You are very wise beyond your years!

I do not understand the power of addiction because I have never suffered through it. I have a close family member who does though & your writing makes me think of him. Good writing as far as I am concerned. Dark but well written. I hope there is no truth to your words & it is only from your imagination.

Honestly that was difficult for me to read. I have three kid's of my own & I understand the love & devotion they have for their parents. I am not from a broken home & I had a great childhood but for some reason any time I read about a child struggling like this it just tears my heart out. This is well written & I love that it is written from the child's point of view with all of his misunderstanding's about where daddy is & why the other kid's are picking on him. This is a beautifully written & understated story & as much as I hated reading it, because I hate reading about hurting children, the fact that it made me FEEL is what matters. I felt it. Keep up the good work.
