Thank you for sharing this story about such a difficult time. I also lost my father with whom I was so close and nothing is ever the same. I really like the little details that mean so much, such as your clipping his toenails, and seeing the angels' wings. If I were to guess at the meaning of his advice to follow the arrows, I think that it means to hold to the faith in God that you both seem to have shared.
