Flower, I stumbled onto your forum this evening. Thank you. Although I've been writing for years, sometimes a refresher is good.

I'm so glad you brought up Shelley's quote,
"Poetry turns all things to loveliness; it exalts the beauty of that which is most beautiful, and it adds beauty to that which is most deformed...;it strips the veil of familiarity from the world, and lays bare the naked and sleeping beauty, which is the spirit of its forms.”

This has been a philosophy of my writing and helped me to develop my style. Alot of my poetry is dark or political... but from all things truly poetic there springs a life force of rhythm and grace and inner light no matter what the subject. I had taken the lesson with me so many years ago, but had forgotten the teacher. Thanks again for reminding me.
