This is so intense. It has a Alfred Hitchcock--Twilight Zone feel to it. I liked the structure of it too. There are two places that I had to read a couple of times. One is the part when the caracter talks about "animal-like cunning," I'm not sure what this is referring to. Was he trying to con the bartender? Then I was unsure of what happened in this terrible accident. Did they hit a telephone pole and a car? Or was it that the car itself did not withstand the crash as it should have? I found your discription interesting and clear. I am very impressed with how few words you used and told so much. That is a gift of a writer!
