I really like the ease in which it is written, no overcomplicated events had to take place, the minimalism is peaceful and helps the humor to shine through. I would love to read more of this version of Icarus, like a Mythological Dennis the Menace, good job! :)
A very good approach, I think, to the subject.
Well, since you seemed to be wondering ( only a bit ) about why people believe such strange things, I'll be delighted to input at least what my personal view on the matter - very shortly - is.
Believing - in itself - is such an important thing, I mean even those that deny something exits, they're actually believing the " nonexistence " of that thing; so, ultimately, we are all believing in something.
People believe the things that are convenient to them; convenient in a way that is suitable with their life styles and their way of thinking. There could be - as you've already mentioned - no way to prove them wrong, simply that because ( most of the time ) they don't believe in the thing that is in fact " real ", they believe the thing that is " true" ,as in only to them (real).
There are only few things that could really be scientifically proven to be " true ", but the eventual question here is: what is the harm of people believing different things, as long as they're not enforcing them to others, or disrespecting others for denying them ? ..
I think those tow are the true harm - if there was any - to the strange beliefs.
I liked what you wrote, and how you took in consideration the others' point of view as well as your own.
Looking forward to reading more of your writings :)
I think it is really refreshing to see someone getting their research right before they write a political article.
I loved the points you pointed out, and how, throughout the article, you were able to balance both your own opinion and facts of what actually is happening.
On another note, I do feel so sorry for what is happening in Libya, but I don't think fear of civil wars is in anyone's mind, other than those living there, or are from there; let's face it, great corporations, governments, etc, are - mostly - looking for their own benefits in dealing with international problems. I hope this is settled within the Libyan ground, from the Libyan people with very few damages ( realizing that damages are there in any uprising ).
Again, thank you for your honest article.
