I found the interwoven commentary a little difficult to read, initially. But after I realized what was going on and got into the rhythm of the alternating backstory and quotes, I found the "breaking" of the narrator's story flow added to the tone of a life broken by tragedy.
The imagery used lent to the heavy feel of the piece. The contrast between the hero's autobiography and his countrymen's view of him was psychologically interesting.
The style is artistically interesting, if hard to follow as a reader. But, it is well-done and inspiring.
