This is a very heart wrenching poem that I believe many young women end up feeling and going through before they grow enough to find contentment and love for themselves, thus eliminating the need for approval from someone else. Keep up the good work!
I really enjoyed your poem. We definitely live in a hustle and bustle society, where we don't often stop to contemplate the things that really matter. I can recall a simpler time, myself, where I stopped to do many of the things you mention. Somehow, adulthood seems to negate that. We should all make a more conscious effort to get back to simpler times; to take time to slow down and really take notice. Nice job! Got me thinking :)
It is nice to hear this type of perspective on parenting, etc. from a man's point of view. Often it is mothers and women, writing on parenting and growing older. Other than some typos, I think this is a nice piece. I am glad that you are reentering the world of writing!
