I love both the message of this poem, and the way you expressed it! "Thank you" is not often heard, or rather, not heard often enough in our rush to get things done, and get through our busy days and "to-do" lists. If only we each took the time to consider our words before we spoke them.
I especially like the way you ended:
"..For someone to hear that they did well.
Will bring a smile to someone’s face,
And in the end you get more, much more,
From friends you praise,
Than those you hurt."
This is SO beautifully written! Your love for Jonathan is evident through out, as is his generous and gentle soul.
It reminds of my own son. He recently bought a condo and i am suffering from the dreaded EMpty Nester's Syndrome, so this was pleasing for me to read.
Beautifully done!
A well -written story, cleverly told, although I must admit I was saddened/horrified at Claire's demise. But your sense of humor is evident throughout, and you kept me interested.
I really like the story as you wrote it! I was introduced to the Prayer of jabez by a friend, several years ago, and I repeat it throughout the day.
You wrote this just as a Bible story and I likd the humor that you managed to insert into the story:
“ You’re back, my young friend. Did you forget another cold harsh answer you wanted to give me, or have you found the deed to the spot?”
This is a great piece! I enjoyed reading it, probably a lot more than you did when you experienced it firsthand!
My only suggestion is that if you are going to make a moral statement about never calling in sick unless you really are, I would remove the last statement as it takes away from the lesson learned.
As someone who has lived through comparable cirsumstances during Christmas, I can both empathize with your family's plight, as well as celebrate your happiness as a family together!
This is well written and heartfelt--just the kind of story that I find so inspirational!
I love poems and stories centered around Christmas and its message of hope, peace and goodwill. You prayer/poem covers all of these messages so wonderfully well!
This is very helpful! I am planning on sending one of my stories in to a publisher. I have submitted stories online, but have been hesitant about sending it in to a publisher becuase of the query letter.
This covers all the issues that have prevented me from going forward.
Thank you for tackling this for me and others like me!
Oh, how I agree with you! I especially love your last sentence. Twenty years ago, spinal cord surgery left me with deficits in my hand function and walking ability. it took me many years and many tears to learn that it is we who control how we feel, nobody can do that for us.
Congratulations a lesson learned, and on a wonderful job of writing about it!
This is a wonderful tribute to our wonderful country! I like the way you blended prayer and poetry together; this was a unique and creative way to present your thoughtsd and feelings!
One small, typo (I make them all the time!):
count[r]y
What a wonmderfully written poem; it reflects your faith in all you do. It is very powerful!
I especially like:
"
I need You every single day, as I work and as I play,
I'll keep His praises on my lips, forgetting not His blood that dripped,
And gushed, spilled and flowed, for all His people and world it showed,
A Divine, consuming, Passionate Love, that comes from God Almighty above."
I LOVED this story! I love the concept of the story and your humor. It is quite funny to think that legal technicalities prevailed in olden times, too!
I especially like:
"Stephen shook his head in disbelief. "You’ve not heard of Excalibur, of King Arthur, of the Knights of the Round Table, of my cousin Merlin? Were you raised in a barn?"
You have brought tears to my eyes. This is so beautifully done, expressed so well! I guess this has more meaning to me because my brother died from leukemia when he was 12; I was ten. Many of your thoughts were my thoughts back then.
