I related so much with this. Your words have an ache to them which makes the poem very easy to connect to. Feels autobiographical but I may be wrong. The imagery is striking and abundant in loneliness, making your story very graphic and potent. My favorite line is : "Although without a hello can you have a goodbye."
I am not a romantic and hence never try to write on that particular subject but reading your poem makes me want to take a chance. Your words have a serene effect and a sort of prophetic tone which establishes from the very first line a hint that no matter how bad things are going to get for this couple, it's going to end perfectly for them. I like the faith you have and it feels sort of autobiographical. Few words, but they tell the story well.
I was drawn to your poem because I'm a huge fan of Dicken's work, especially Great Expectations. It's always interesting to read different perspectives of the old story. Especially from the point of view of a character who really didn't get to say everything her background tale burdened her with. This was a fascinating read. Although the setting is familiar, I like your creative touch.
This is just what I needed at the moment. Something to give my guts that mammoth push. I don't know how one writes such motivational poetry, do you channel some sort of inner burst of confidence or do you have to BE this way to write. Fearless and unapologetic? Enjoyed.
Fantastic piece!! I enjoyed it thoroughly! Especially the line "I wonder as I listen to the year's birth song."- the last stanza is a perfect ending and all your musings are so very true! Daring to do things differently.
Despite the words that war so engagingly, bringing out the idea in a lucid fashion, it's a poem that didn't get lost in its mammoth theme. Enjoyed every single line.
