I really liked this article. The part you wrote about the homeless man laughing at what you said made me think of a section from the Tao Te Ching which I just started reading recently (Tao means Way or Great Way , the unchanging essense that flows through everything, even beyond 'is and is not')
When a superior man hears of the Tao
he immediately begins to embody it
When an average man hears of the Tao
he half believes it, half doubts it
When a foolish man hears of the Tao
he laughs out loud
If he didn't laugh
it wouldn't be the Tao
Treating everyone as equal is very important, as are thinking before you act and having a philosophy about life. Wanting to make the world a better place is a very good virtue to have too. What I've learned lately is that acceptance of what you can and cannot do in life is important, because when you accept that then you can truely feel peace. My girlfriend taught me to do the best I can, be the best I can be, for me as well as everyone else, because the change comes from within, once you find peace in yourself, it will help others by example, even without your knowing it.
