Post “Done” in the comments below, and which poem you reviewed. If Ive given you an MB in the last fortnight, I’m afraid you’re not eligible. No cut and paste in the comments please
The danger of committing one poem to paper, even virtual paper, is that a horde of others are waiting in the shadows, waiting to make a bum’s rush toward the exit

A shout out to all you Marines who may not be as lean and mean as you once were, but are still green. Oorah, and happy 249th birthday.

46 Days Away!

Amsterdam on the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht. I just don’t have the words.
Word of the day

cathartic — noun — medicine that causes the bowels to be purged

Use in a sentence.

The joy in writing a blog is not having someone read it. If no one read it once it was committed to virtual ink and paper, it would still be effective as a cathartic for my psyche,

After my proctocolectomy I didn't have
to take my cathartic medicine any longer.
Hmmmm. So when that reviewer said my writing was "a cathartic experience"...*Confused*

In 1986, Donald Kingsbury wrote The Moon Goddess and the Son. Well, technically he expanded an existing novella, but I won’t debate the point.

One of the plots in the book introduced game theory to me. If I had a formal education and thirty more IQ points, I would love to expand my knowledge on the subject beyond the dilettante level.

At some point in the future, I’m going to have to reread Kingsbury’s book so I can do a proper review on it for my blog.

But it got me thinking. I wonder how many other people read a novel, and it inspired them to learn more about a specific branch of science and/or mathematics. So here’s what I’d like to do. Be one of the first five people to put in the comments below and give me the name of a novel, the branch of science or mathematics that novel inspired you to learn about, and how/why it inspired you to learn more, and I will send you the Scientific merit badge. My only caveats are 1) It has to be a specific subject, like botany or number theory, and not a general subject like space travel or arctic exploration and 2) I have not sent you a merit badge within the last fortnight.
For those of you who are disappointed in last night’s election results and feel that those who are poor and needy will suffer the most, then go and do something for them. Go and do something for someone whom you have never met, and whom you will never receive any direct benefit from giving succor.

And if your side was the victor last night, I suggest you do the same.

35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You as a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’ — Matthew 25:35-40

The only person you are responsible for is yourself. You can not change anyone nor make them do anything. Whatever anyone does will ripple forth and affect others. Be kind and considerate towards each other.
Safe travels and many blessings.
In the US, this Sunday is the Marine Corps’ birthday, with the following Monday being Veterans’ Day. I believe that November 11th is observed in other countries to honor those who have served in their armed forces. I’m a veteran and, though not a Marine, I am indebted to three different Marines for the positive impact they’ve had on my life. If you are a Veteran, please Sound Off in the comments section below. Thanks in advance.
