Hi, Sierra Mike, and welcome to W.Com. Just thought I'd leave a scribble in your notebook after your email! Checkout "The Newbies Academy Group" at our public forum "Newbies Academy Registration - OPEN" if you need any help. Hope this was the group you asked about. Regards, Sisco. |
So far I think WdC is so much fun and I can't wait to start sharing my writing with you all. |
And we can't wait to read it! Though do note that this is the birthday week and things are a bit more exciting than usual. But they're still pretty fun all year round. I got your email and will respond to it in a bit. I've got a lot going on and it will take several minutes to reply, but I promise I will. Also, I don't recall if I've said this before, but WELCOME TO WdC!!! |
You might want to have 2 windows open and read my email as you do things...or just wing it because it's so long. |
stolenthrones is laughing at my last comment, Sierra Mike, because I sent her a really long email on another topic and had the same advice...as she had planned on doing as well. Yeah, it's not just you that I can't be brief with. |
Hi everyone, I'm new here and look forward to enjoying this mysterious site. Blessed weekend and happy celebrations. |
Welcome, Sierra Mike! Just so you know, this is the annual WdC birthday celebration. The site is 21 years old this year. They have a huge celebration September 1-7 every year and then more festivities than normal the rest of the month, so what you see isn't exactly normal. But there's still lots of fun all year round. I encourage you to check out the Community Newsfeed to see more of what's going on. Click Newsfeed. That will take you to the default Personal Newsfeed where you will see your posts, official WdC posts, and the posts of anyone whose Plus button you have clicked...which I assume is currently no one's. This is what I'm talking about, but no obligation to click mine...of course, you are welcome to, if you want. Schnujo's NOT Doing NaNoWriMo If you click it once, you set them as a favorite and they are easier to find because they are in your Favorites list. If you click twice, the preference, you become a fan and they are notified, which is why it's preferred. You see a megaphone so you know you fanned them. You can also fan items, but when you do, you have to open the actual item and click the Plus button on the upper right corner. If you click the Plus button on the link as such...
then you are only fanning the person, not their item. I did that a lot for a while before I got things figured out. Back to the Community Newsfeed (I distract easily ), on your Personal Newsfeed (the default), along the top-ish part, you'll see View the Community Newsfeed. Click that and you'll see what EVERYONE is posting. It's the same thing as your Personal one, but without everyone filtered out. So, hope on the Community Newsfeed and start clicking Like, commenting, checking out activities, and making friends. Soon, you'll find Plus Signs you'll want to click and people will click yours as well, but just like real life authors, to get much notice here, you need fans...which are basically your WdC friends. Anyway, WELCOME TO WdC!!! |
I assume you can for blogs as well, but I know for static items such as stories and poems, you can just go under Advanced and I think it's the 3rd thing (maybe the 2nd), and change that to Rating Requires Review. If you've already created the item, go to the gear in the upper right corner, click that and click Quick Edit. There you can open an edit window to make changes of any sort you want, including changing it so folks have to review you in order to give a rating.
Anyway, I'm glad you are here! Be sure to start making friends by going on the Community Newsfeed. You can find it by clicking Newsfeed, then along the top, you'll see View the Community Newsfeed. Click that and you'll meet all sorts of new people on there. Scroll. Like. Comment. Enjoy. You'll find activities and meet folks. You can also go to Activities and to Contests under the Community tab on the left as well.
WELCOME!
