Hi all, I haven't been posting any new stories for the last few weeks as all my spare time has been spent setting up a website. I have a few articles up now, so if you want to stop by and have a look I'm at www.outofinterest.org

Hmm..I really like the theme of the site as I am a big fan of random interesting things. I know it is just starting up but adding images to the page would make it look even more inviting. Also, as the site grows, which I know it would, people like me would like to subscribe so that they get mailers about the new added stuff.

Something like www.todayifoundout.com.

Lovely start, friend :)
Thanks Kanish, I have paid a friend of mine who is a graphic designer to come up with a logo so it should be looking more professional soon. Another friend is also looking to produce a little stop animation video to embed on the front page. Thanks for taking a look. I'll investigate the link you shared. Cheers.
I have read in a few places that a writer can't expect to meet his, or her, potential until they have written a million words.

I'm not sure what my total word count is at the moment. If I had to guess, which I don't, but I'm going to anyway, I'd say I'm at around 250,000.

There's no doubt I've improved. I hope I haven't peaked yet.

What do you all think? Is a million words about right? What do you suppose your total word count is right now?
There's the rule of 10,000 that says no one can expect to be an expert at anything until they have 10,000 hours of practice at it. (or something like that) I'm not sure how many words 10,000 hours amounts to. I guess it would depend upon the person writing. If I don't have distractions I can crank out about 5,000 words in 7 - 8 hours but for the sake of argument I'll round that to 10 hours which would equate to roughly 5,000,000 words ... I think. (math class was looooong ago)
I auto-reward for reviews of all my items and it usually works just fine. I'm not wildly happy about having paid for the following review I just received though:

"this was a gooddddddddddddddddddddddd storyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

Really? Thanks for that.
One reason I quit auto rewarding.

Maybe you can report them. Those types of reviews are gaining the system. The staffmight might be
able to do something to stop them for doing the same to others.
Definitely report it. SM and SMs hate to see people doing that.
I sold my first article last month and it has just been published!

Congratulations on getting your article published! I just finished reading it and found it fascinating. You provided information not often brought forward in history books. These women did compelling things in they're time to shape our world. *Thumbsup*
Thank you so much Elle - on hiatus Author IconMail Icon for gifting me a `Big Bang' review package from `The Power Review Shop'. You are most kind. It is much appreciated.

I've had three great entries for the first round, but I'd love to see a few more to make it more competitive. New or existing pieces accepted so long as they meet the prompt.

I've had a piece of flash fiction published!

It's now available in `The Darker Time Collection Volume 2' available in paperback and ebook from Amazon.

Very nice!*ConfettiP* *ConfettiV* *ConfettiGR*
Hey that is lovely. Which piece. Is that here in your portfolio? I will like to learn.
Thanks Kanish,

No it's not in my portfolio. It did start life here as a 150 word story before I re-wrote it and expanded it to 500 words.

For your promotion to "Preferred Author"

Your case looks great in YELLOW!

I found a fascinating resource which I thought you might like to take a look at. It examines your text for readability and assigns it a score out of 100 (with 100 being most readable and 1 being least). It also lets you know the youngest age group who would be expected to be able to confortably read the text (eg. 12-13).

Just go to the `direct input' tab and enter the text.

I've enjoyed comparing a few of my stories.

Thanks for link. It is interesting. I plugged in paragraph I did for spring in South Florida (see comment to Jeff Maine) and this read-able site came back with a score of 76. Some of the analytic scoring terms I don't understand....

Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease 76
Flesch Kincaid Grade Level 6.9
Gunning Fog Score 9.2
SMOG Index 6.8
Coleman Liau Index 8.1
Automated Readability Index 6.2
I think they each examine the text based on slightly different criteria. Most of my pieces seemed to come in at around 70-80. I pasted in some James Joyce and it came in at 50.
*Balloony* Congratulations on your promotion! *Balloony*
Are you feeling okay? You've started look a little different recently, I thought you might be feeling a little ill, not so healthy. Oh wait, I see it's your shiny new YELLOW suitcase! Congratulations!
