This is my writer's scratchpad. I use this space to scribble down some quick thoughts and images that appeal to me. The idea is that when I don't feel like working on one of my stories but still want to write, the incomplete "droplets" I form will get posted here.
I have another (currently dormant) blog where I discuss politics, sexuality, spirituality, and whatever else comes to mind. It's called The Musings of a Confused Man.
Except for one year (2012) when he became seriously-ill from an infection from a botched hip-replacement procedure, Larry has counted a minimum of 1,000,000 tabs each year!!!
He doesn't simply estimate the number of tabs (going by weight) but, instead, counts each one by hand. He also makes sure that they're all aluminum.
Whenever possible, he passes along the details of where the tabs come from and how many so that everybody in his "family" gets credit where credit is due and says that this isn't just him doing all of this but, instead, everybody working together.
Getting involved with all of this has helped him with his addiction issues as well.
He has been drug-free and alcohol-free for several years and quit smoking in 2009.
Larry turned 72 on February 17, 2019 -- meaning that 53 years have passed since he was that depressed teen who didn't see life getting any better and decided to quickly make an exit by poisoning himself.
While riding around with him, he had casually asked his youth minister if they could stop at a store to pick up some Drain-O so that he could unclog his bathroom sink.
His real plans were to drink it while the minister was too busy driving to notice until it was too late to save his life but not too late to pray with him and keep him company -- but the minister ended up rushing him to ER in time for surgery to be performed to clean him out before his organs got eaten away.
It's not only a miracle that he survived this but, also, survived able to talk and eat!
These days, one of the causes that Larry's involved in is going around to schools, church groups, etc. and telling his story to young people to discourage them from getting involved in substance-abuse; to stay in school; and not to see suicide as an option.
Kids listen to him.
He's also involved in helping to raise funds for suicide prevention.
Wow! Ok this one has merit too, I just wish I could read more. You have a thing for druids I think, no? I would use a few more emotional tags, I would also describe a little more of how evil she LOOKS in a few subtle ways. As I said in my last review for you, I love descriptive writing, but that's just my choice. You're a good writer man, please continue these two stories!
Did Erica see the grizzled old man, or did she, rather, 'see' him with her eyes wide shut ??
I really enjoyed the read = whether or not the story is of physical, tangible reality, is immaterial. It's a world woven of sound and sight and impressions = crafting a story; a world of possibilities
