July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
| Day 3454: March 27, 2024 Prompt: “Butterflies are self propelled flowers.” Robert A. Heinlein   Butterflys are special. They come in so many different sizes and colors. They are a joint legged invertebrate. Because of their six legs they are also an insect. If you really want to find different varieties of butterflies in the North Eastern USA, go out early in the morning. LIke the birds they are flying and taking care of business in the moist air of late dawn to early noon. Crocheted butterflies make good book markers. If you crochet you know there are a lot of patterns in circulation for Butterflys. The national Audubon Society has a field guide for butterflies. It contains 1,014 images of Butterflys, caterpillars, and chrysalises. On walks my dogs will chase a butterfly or moth if it flutters by. The fluttering flying movement they exhibit excites other animals. When the snow came back the insects stopped buzzing outside. I wonder what affect the eclipse will have on the weather and on the insects and birds. Guess I better look it up. Have a good day. ![Merit Badge in Friendship

Day 3452: March 25, 2024  Prompt: “The reason birds can fly and we can't is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.” J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird I've have a parrot that never learned to fly. It was used poorly by someone who teased it as a young bird. Also, young birds that are raised by parent birds have an example to follow. Parrots for the pet trade are often hatched in incubators and raised by humans. When I purchased this bird, it had been taught to bite. A parrot bite can be a very serious wound. I set out to teach it to fly. I was not successful. I know how to handle it and have owned it now for several years. It is a very wise and fun pet. I like the prompt quote and recognize, that the part of a bird, that is often noticed is its' ability to fly. I have ridden in airplanes and jumped horses over 5-foot-high fences. I think jumping a horse over a high fence is more like a bird flying than riding in an airplane. It takes a faith in your four-footed partner to jump a fence. I also like the fact that our Father in Heaven chose birds to herald the coming of morning with song. I'm more excited at dawn to hear many birds singing, than to notice their flight. In spring and summer, they sing more and louder. I listen for the sound to judge the day's weather pattern. This is just a few thoughts relating to the prompt. I am always interacting with the outside world. That's who I am. We live in homes that keep us sheltered and safe from the outside world. Nevertheless, the real life is out there, trees, bushes, forests and parks, birds and other creatures. If you search maps, the outside world is bigger than the human inhabited part of the globe. Just thoughts. |

I got up fast. I turned to chase that monkey, but he was already lamming it out the back door." It's ok Martha just have a seat; I'll get you some Camomile tea it will settle the electricity down you experienced. There are some fresh Snicker Doodle muffins too. I noticed the bar floor is a little bit extra slippery. Maybe someone put an extra coat of wax down. Just drink your tea and rest. Wow. What an experience. |
Spring Equinox.?? I have to say I'm weather disturbed. We were having this nice spring weather until the Spring Equinox. Then a blast of winter hit. I did expect this though, since the first of March was so calm this year. Now just enough snow and colder temps to make me disgusted. Weather here can be  Just another weather day. In spite of the weather most things normal.Hope your spring is going well. |
| Now I wonder how this works. After reading Queen Norma Jean, ours came in like a lamb so I expect it to leave like a lion, however, we just had a two-day snowstorm with temps in the low 30's. Now the sun is shining and expecting temps in the 60's before the day is over. This is the time of year I think the weather is fighting. Winter wants back in Spring is pushing it out. Lot of summer birds back. I heard the first ones singing in the dawn back in early February. Usually means an early spring. As far as Lyin and Lams go. This kind of weather is difficult on the weather apps because they say one thing at 4 a.m. and something else at 10 a.m. Just not sure where they get there forecast but, sometimes it isn't relevant to the area we live in. | Day 3439: March 12, 2024 Prompt: Today is Plant a Flower Day What kind of flower would you like to plant? Where would you like to plant the flower?  ApondiaI planted mint in a flowerpot last week and the sunshine is making it grow up fast. I used to have a mint plant that lasted indoors in a hanging pot for several years. I would break off pieces and feed it to my parrots. I also dried it and used it for tea. The parrots like all kinds of green herbs as part of their treats. I would like to plant crocus. I have one crocus that comes up every year I would like to plant a whole bed of them maybe I will this year. After a two-day snowstorm we are having whole days of sunshine. | Let this event in history inspire your thoughts about today's increased violence from law enforcement and civilians. How do we find a way to resolve issues without it coming down to pepper spray and nightsticks or guns? Apondia Over the years I was unfortunate enough to see a lot of news coverage in real time. I saw two presidents shot, Attacks from a shooter in Texas, a local suicide during a news event, coverage of tornado destruction and other memorable events. Princess Megan Rose posted a nice blog on Blog City today worth reading. When my dogs spy a squirrel or chipmunk out the window, I have to tell them "Calm down." and they do. I guess that does not work with people in the headlines, who have what is considered political power these days. I have to tell you there was other times in my life when the world powers were very threatening. It calmed down after a while when enough people were killed, or common sense took over. Lately, I think they may be testing God. Probably not a good thing to think and hope it is not a true thought. In any event it would take enough individuals to say No to violence but then, what about protecting yourself from violence. If you don't protect yourself history shows you, they will behead you or hang you on a cross. After all the violence I simply have no answers, I know how but, I can't make others listen. When evil raises its head, truth straitens out a path to peace. Bye for now. |

Apondia In my life I have had to shuffle time for the things I want to do. My time is something other people always want to use for themselves. Time has to include knowledge and learning because the best use of time has to do with making life decisions that work for you. You cannot make good time use decisions without knowledge. Lots of patience is something else that there is a lot of need for in our world today. And patience is something I need to gather and spread every day. When there are so many online ideas about war and violence today it makes me wonder why so many people who control countries are impatient with each other. Instead, I hear this: I want the land you live on / it you do this I will do that / we will do whatever we want / make me. Actually, reading a well written history book will help you understand what is going on better than some news reports. My patience frays easily lately, I wonder why? Have as good a day as you can--make time for something you like to do. Bye for now. |
