These are my thoughts and ramblings as I forge my way through this thing they call Life. I blog with these groups: "Blogging Circle of Friends " [E] |
Soundtrack for Your Life Prompt: What were you listening to last year? Need You Now - Plumb Love this song. It reminds me that God is there for me, through the good, the bad and the ugly. I just need to remember to ask for His help. I need His strength to guide and sustain me through it all. These days I am feeling low and down on myself. I need this reminder that I am good enough and that I need Him. He's got my back and my heart. This was actually my Valentine's Day pick... I am just slow to get these posted this week. |
Soundtrack for Your Life Prompt: What were you listening to last year? These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra Everyone needs a kick ass song. This one is a reminder for me to stick up for myself and not let others walk all over me. I will admit I am not a fan of the shortest dresses ever, but it was the 1960's and free love was a thing. Still, I prefer a little modesty. Styles come and go. I wouldn't be surprised if that design of dress was created by a man... but I digress. Enjoy the song. |
Soundtrack for Your Life Prompt: What were you listening to last year? Nichole Nordeman - Brave This song brings a smile to my face and tears to my eyes. It reminds me that I can be more than this world says I can be... Fear can't hold me back. Love and Faith push me to be my best and to shine. My purpose is not to hide in the corner. It is to share my talents, my God given talents with the world to make things better than the Status Quo. |
Soundtrack of Your Life Prompt: What did I listen to last year? An now for something a little different... two songs... in a lip sync battle. Is this allowed? Not sure, but I had fun listening to this. I adore Anna Kendrick and she rocked J.Lo's Booty. John Krasinski is hilarious when he did Tina Turner's Proud Mary. Sometimes you just gotta have fun with music and this had me smiling, laughing and trying to sing along! Enjoy! |
Soundtrack for Your Life Prompt: What songs was I listening to last year? Holiday - Madonna Live Aid version. I put this in my Bimoji Classroom at the end of the school year. I wanted a fun song to send my students off for summer and this one was it. Being a child of the 80s, this was so great to see. Live Aid was big. 1985. Those crowds would never happen now. No traveling either. Not for me. The words are pretty basic. There is no story, like my other song choices to this point, but it is a fun song. Great to dance to and to celebrate the end of a good school year despite all the craziness of Covid. Enjoy. A few lyrics: Holiday Celebrate Holiday Celebrate If we took a holiday Took some time to celebrate Just one day out of life It would be It would be so nice Everybody spread the word We're gonna have a celebration All across the world In every nation |
Soundtrack of Your Life Prompt: What was I listening to last year? Cups (When I'm Gone) - Anna Kendrick I love Anna Kendrick. She is quirky and so much fun! She reminds me of my cousin Elizabeth - another small, ball of fire. I wonder how long it took them to do this video. How many takes? Everyone is so talented with the cups. There is no way I can manage doing that. Scene from the movie: which I absolutely love... and Perfect Pitch 2 and 3 were also good. The first was my favourite. A few lyrics: I got my ticket for the long way 'round Two bottle o' whiskey for the way And I sure would like some sweet company And I'm leavin' tomorrow, what do you say? When I'm gone When I'm gone You're gonna miss me when I'm gone You're gonna miss me by my hair You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh You're gonna miss me when I'm gone When I'm gone When I'm gone You're gonna miss me when I'm gone You're gonna miss me by my walk You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh You're gonna miss me when I'm gone |
Soundtrack of Your Life Prompt: What was I listening to last year? You Don't Own Me Girl power. This is a modern version of Leslie Gore's 1963 version. The older version: The song stands the test of time. We are always fighting to remain ourselves, vital and strong, not some ornament of some guy. We are true partners on a life journey, not someone that can be bossed around and be made to feel small and insignificant. A few lyrics: You don't own me I'm not just one of your many toys You don't own me Don't say I can't go with other boys And don't tell me what to do Don't tell me what to say And please, when I go out with you Don't put me on display 'cause |
Soundtrack of Your Life Theme: What songs did I listen to last year? Take Me To Church - Hozier Love the dancing in this video. I love the music in this probably more than the words. It pulls me in and the dancing is exquisite. I wish I could move like that. It is so expressive and fluid. A few lyrics: My lover's got humor She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval I should've worshiped her sooner If the Heavens ever did speak She's the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week "We were born sick", you heard them say it My church offers no absolutes She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom" The only Heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you I was born sick, but I love it Command me to be well A-, Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life This is also a beautiful video: I did not include the official video because I found it too disturbing. Judgmental people really rub me the wrong way. The meaning.... https://www.popsongprofessor.com/blog/2015/04/15/what-does-take-me-to-church-by-... "The chorus is an explicit and sarcastic attack on legalistic churches (or any church that follows guides which cause congregants to feel shame). Hozier sings, "Take me to church / I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies / I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife." He claims that the church demeans its attendees and attacks them for the things they do when those things go against the church's doctrine." I get this aspect. Many feel religion is an enforcer... a strict adherence to church doctrine and legalistic aspects that judge. But I separate my love of God and the religion of church. God is a higher power. God is love. In all religions, God is love. One common heartbeat. The church is run by human-kind... and in that, it is open to human frailties. That is not to say that every organized religion is legalistic, but one must take care when interpreting God's Word. Judgement rests with God, not with us. What saddens me is that many abusers look to the Bible as giving them the right to do what they do.... and that sickens me. Those people have twisted the Word to make is suit them and that is the evilness that seeps in. They have warped the Word, like leaving it outside in the rain. I feel more connected with my God when I walk through a grove of trees and listen to the world around me, than I do sitting in church. I also feel more connected when I share an intimate moment with friends. Where there is love, there is God. God does not leave us in our pain. He sits with us. His presence surrounds us.... like a hug. We only need to let him in to feel it and feel the peace that comes with knowing he will never leave us alone. Humans may leave. He will not. |
Soundtrack of Your Life Theme: What songs did I listen to last year? We Believe - Newsboys This is the same group as yesterday's blog post, but the lead singer is changed. I initially wasn't sure about the change, but I love the Newsboys sound and the new Lead singer grew on me. Talent continues to Shine on. My faith is strong in the touch times... but also in the good. I hope that whatever you believe in, is a source of strength as we move through these touch times. A few lyrics: In this time of desperation When all we know is doubt and fear There is only one foundation We believe We believe In this broken generation When all is dark, You help us see There is only one salvation We believe We believe |
Soundtrack of Your Life Theme: What songs did I listen to last year? Shine - Newsboys All time favourite song. I gotta listen to this one really loud! Although I will admit it sounds better on my CD than it does out of the YouTube video. I get chills. We all need to remember to shine. Show our talents. Don't hide them under a basket. Use them for good. You never know how you reach others, but you do... in wonderful, amazing and even unexpected ways. God always finds a way to use your talents to inspire others. A few lyrics: Shine. Make 'em wonder whatcha got. Make 'em wish that they were not On the outside looking bored. Shine. Let it shine before all men. Let em see good works and then Let em glorify the Lord. |
