I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.
I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.
I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Let this quote inspire a story: "The wind that makes music in November corn is in a hurry. The stalks hum, the loose husks whisk skyward in half-playing swirls, and the wind hurries on... A tree tries to argue, bare limbs waving, but there is no detaining the wind." — Aldo Leopold
The winds put out a serious sound. Something never heard before across the lakes. The birds had become totally quiet. Not a sound from any wildlife was the warning that something special was up in the atmosphere. Black clouds growing in the west. Not just the cumulus heavy with rain that was normal for a stormy day. These clouds were truly black, solid, one moving mass of danger The massive, moving black form was pushing against air. A sound like the bundle of heavy metal blocks being rolled across a solid wooden floor. The deer herd turned and ran straight away from the sight and sound. Into the sheltering forest, deep into the trees and brush far and fast they ran.
The gusting winds caught at them, now pressing against the brush and ripping at the foliage of trees. Then receding for a short time. Like a winded giant pausing to take a new breath and blow at the wooded land and running herd again. Finally, the small herd entered a particularly dense part of the wood. Nestled against every tree was a stand of heavy brush. Here the herd broke into twos and threes. Curled onto the ground at the base of mighty standing trees in the cover of the brush that was knitted into dense hidden resting places. The wind gusts tore at the forest, The rain beat so hard on the ground it flattened plants and uprooted small trees.
When the raging atmospheric storm passed the deer emerged from their shelters and moved west to a field. Here the storm had left grasses flattened but still the herd was able to find forage and gain strength. After a time of grazing as darkness was falling they found another place of calm and bedded down to await the next rising of the sun.
Another day was on its way. Another day to meet what ever earth would throw out at the ranging wildlife.

Prompt:Do you like Hallmark Romance Movies? Do you like the Christmas ones? Write about these in your Blog entry today.
Hi from Apondia
I used to watch Christmas movies. I haven't for a few years. I used to watch what was known as chick flicks. Actually, stopped watching TV for a few years even news. Could not stand the constant coverage of Covid and did not have Netflix.
My son takes me to movies he knows I want to keep up with like Star Wars. On my kindle I'm inclined to choose movies by their title. I watched the Wheel of Time for a while, then for some reason Amazon did not keep sending it to my kindle. Lately, I've been watching Midsummer Murders and on TV I never watched Bull so I'm watching it now. Also never watched Criminal Minds before. Just read Don't Tell by Olson so seem to be diving into murder mystery a lot lately, dark side diving. I really don't like reruns. Even in books reruns are not tolerated very often. We have an antenna so are subject to reruns.
As for Hallmark Movies they are usually entertaining. Always watched Charlie Brown Christmas.I miss the comics from the newspapers. I know I could find them online. Don't deliberately read romance books and have not for years. Age brings with it a separation from things other people choose for me. A study of geography gave me a good take on why romance is pushed a lot in entertainment.
Christmas this year is a mystery. What it will be like I don't yet know. |

Have fun with these nine words: muscle, watch, wardrobe, energy, strike, exception, consciousness, point, and incentive.
Hi. Apondia
Today I need a warm wardrobe. As I watch out the window for the snow forecast to strikeI maintain a consciousness of the incentive it takes to achieve muscle and energy during a snow storm. My point is shoveling snow is a heavy job. The exception will be if this first snow is light and melts as it hits the ground. Maybe I should have tried this in a poem. |

Prompt: "Every day brings new choices, Write about this quote in your Blog entry today.
Hi from Apondia.
I am interested in the WDC addition in 2025. I will have to write a lot more. It would be a good addition to my present busy life. Someone has hacked my computer again. So, if I write more, I will have to get it back again. We will see.
I do not believe in one bowl to a family, one set of silverware to a family, or one personal computer to a family. Today I am on Keith's computer because mine has been hacked again. That is why they are called personal computers.
Is anyone out there being harassed by AI? AI does not make all its own decisions it is driven by humans. Behind everything AI does presently is a human.
This has nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans. It is pure evil. Also, it happened in an earlier time in this country. Some of us remember when.

Write about an unusual animal you've seen recently
An unusual animal is the vulture that sat in a tree with its wings spread a couple weeks ago.
Also saw a buck come out of the trees last week. I called to it, and it stood and listened to me talk, then moved off to the woods.
The most unusual is a pet black cat I have living in my home. It has been running around with its tongue sticking out between its teeth. It also scratches on cardboard boxes and in corners of the room. It has sudden fits of wild running around rooms and jumping down on people from high heights. I have been researching this online and found that cats who are doing these odd things are going insane. I did not even know cats could go insane. With some particularly special attention the cat is returning to its more normal behavior. Although, it continues to stay close to me as if it is frightened of something. I don't know this cats age as my granddaughter got it from a cat rescue when it was already full grown. She had it for several years when it began to want outside on a regular basis and jumped from a two-story window in their house. It seems healthy and eats well. It has been with me for about 7 years. Not sure when it came here it was before 2021.
The tree that fell in a wind storm is cleaned away out of the driveway. It was killed by lightning a few years ago. The outside birds used it as a perch so they are going through a period of reorientation.
Animals inside and out are part of my daily life.

Use these words in your entry:gratitude, ungrateful, turkey, food fight, and sweet potatoes.
The turkey was not ungratefull when I turned it loose. I'm always surprised how animals can show their gratitude for the smallest kindness. Anyway, sweet potatoes don't make a good food for a food fight{/b
This is more than one sentence.
The best I can do for today. Crazy things going on here today. We cleaned up the tree, it took two days. We can get down the driveway again. Another windstorm coming according to weather for tomorrow. Bye for now. |

Gratitude
Is gratitude is important for our well-being and do you think gratitude could relate to love? If so, in what ways?
Well sometimes I'm grateful for a sale at a special time it does not have anything to do with love just relief I can spend less for something I need.
It might relate to love if it is a person or something some person has done.
I think gratitude is related to words like testimonial and tribute. It is important to be openly grateful at times.

What is your favorite Winter holiday?jh
I like Christmas the best. A postal worker told me this one season, "Jesus is the reason for the season." No matter whether people fight over exactly when the birth of Jesus occurred; it is still the celebration that matters. It is the beginning of a story that has affected the entire earth. Every year it renews itself.
It is a time during the year when there is more peace celebrated, when everyone needs peace. There is always someone around that does not want to celebrate Christmas. I always say that is your choice.
For me even if it just meant a vacation for children at this time of year and gift giving and decorations and seasonal music it is still a great time of year to enjoy a celebration.
I always wonder at Christmas what Jesus's childhood was like. There is only a small amount of information about his youthful years. His ministry on the earth was short. Only a few years packed with information.
Christmas showing up on the heels of Thanksgiving is good as well. It seems to lengthen the party.
