Summary of this Book...
Oh, my. This is a firecracker of a book! I’ve only just noted that this is number 2 in a series, but I haven’t read number 1, and it didn’t detract from my enjoyment one bit. (I will, however, be reading the first one now I’ve seen this.) From the very start, this book is suspenseful and tense, and it hooked me tightly and completely. Wonderful! Violet Wilde, singer and guitarist with rock band ‘Violet & The Black Sheep,’ awakes to find herself in an unfamiliar room (cabin) with a hangover-like headache and no memory of how she got there. Then she discovers she is locked in, with bars on the windows and no way out. In and envelope, she finds a mobile phone and a note that says there is one pre-programmed number in the phone, and this is the only number she can call. She must find out what her connection is with the person on the other end of the line in order to be set free. Bus is the man on the other end of the line. A functioning semi-alcoholic who has no drive or ambitions in life. Not the kind of go-getter Violet was hoping for to save her life. So, the spoilers. The people playing with Violet and Bud are workers from the Jolvix institute. Violet and Bud both had brain scans there six years ago to have them studied. Enter: Dr Gelsen and Riley, the crazy scientists who have designed this whole experiment. When their brains were scanned, these two men made copies of their brains and have been keeping the copies in a place they call ‘The Dark Ballroom.’ Now, ready for the next part of the experiment, Dr Gelsen wants to switch the original Violet and Bud for the brain copies. I won’t go into all the specifics because I’m not sure I understood it all. But it was a twist I did not see coming. I would never have guessed this, not in a million years. I loved how violet and Bud had a massive attraction, in person as well as in brain copy form. There was this natural attraction which was beautiful to see. So. While I am in awe of the creativity and imagination of the author, I was a little disappointed with the SciFi twist. I wanted to see Violet and Bud escape (which they did), but I wanted to see the original Violet and Bud escape and overcome Riley and Dr Gelsen. I guess that would have been too easy and not so creative. But my brain isn’t so good at SciFi. But, never mind. I still give this book five stars because it was thoroughly enjoyable and creative.

Violet and Bud. Their characters were really well crafted. Considering the whole book, for Violet, takes place inside the cabin, we have such a vivid picture of where she is and what she goes through.
